Firmware on the 2910

I went to Denon's website to check for a firmware update for my 2910. When I put in the SN it says there is none available. The Denon rep at CES said a new one was just released

Can someone tell me how I tell what firmware I have (I think each denon model is different)

What is the current firmware

Thanks

Got it - turn off the power with the little button
Hold down play and open
Wait 3 seconds
then press 3265
menu

Mine is version 5 - the current version according to Denon

Kenny the sales weasel

The rep I spoke to at CES claimed Denon released a macroblocking fix for the 2910. The latest firmware release for the 2910 is still November's version 5. The 2910 is a great unit but still suffers the macroblocking issue.

What exactly is macroblocking and what do you see when it occurs?

It is kind of like defective pixels on a LCD laptop screen only bigger and not permanent. It is little segments that don't match the rest of the scene. I read a few descriptions of what it is when I searched for it but I didn't see any that I am sure are the definitive explanation. Perhaps an AV engineer might explain better than I can.

is the macroblocking noticeable on your display?
because it doesn't effect all display's
there most likely will never be a firmware update to fix it since it is a problem with the Geneis FLI chip
it was a problem on the 5900 and Denon has made improvements so it is not as bad as it was.
no dvd player is going to be perfect
