Hi there, I am considering the 4600,2600 and Denon 3806. I have a Sony SXRD TV and want to take advantage of the ability to save video settings by input since I think that Cable, VCR, DVD, satelitte are all different and using a receiver for video switching would mean that I would be constantly reseting the video settings depending on my source.
Having said that, do you agree and if so, which receiver would be the best bet? I like Yamaha. I want a robust amp section and good sound. Is the Denon a winner here or go with the 2600? thanks

My RX-V2600 sound great !

Yes, I love this receiver ! It's the latest model over many other brand as of today "Nov/2005". I've been A/B many comparative models for the last monthsss; At last I droped all of these Hk7300, 635, Denon 4600, 3806, 3805, which including the discounted old yam 2500 to get the final RX-V2600 !!! I have it for 10 days now. I listen to a lot of jazz music & lately with movie. For movie, the Yami DSP really produce great quality HT sound when I watch the Matrix & recent Batman Begin DVD. Obviously for jazz music is the best for the money. It's send out crystal clear sound to my front speakers that I can hear it really live for every instruments sound in such the drum hi-hat, cymbals, the rim shot ..etc.. ! I'm runing the rx-v2600 with main speakers JMLab 927be which is very good "jazzy" sound speaker that have a Preq response as high as up to 36khz !. When I listen to 2 channel stereo, the jmlab 927be w/ the little berillium twisters really shined like I'm standing right in front of a live jazz band. The 2600 OS system w/ GUI on screen set up is so easy to use that I think anyone can manipulate & customize all the sound features easily ! Lastly, in term of the LOOK, I think the new redesign 2600 front panel LCD & knobs looks really sleek compare to the older 2500.

...my 2 cents :)

Is RX-V2600 running hot (temp)?

I am thinking about getting V2600 too if it does not run hot like V2500.
Please let me know how hot it is after watching 2-3 surround movies.
Many thanks

alpharetta,

you do know that you can set your RX-V2500 fan to run continuously, thus reducing heat build up. heat build-up sounds like an iffy reason to justify upgrading from the 2500 to the 2600, unless the heat is causing other problems. my shopping around and reading the internet before i purchased led me to believe that most, if not all, receiver in these prices ranges tend to run warm or hot. i think that's just the nature of the beast. i believe sony claims the 7100's digital amplifier system, however, somehow allows it run a little cooler than the average receiver in this performance class.

That's certainly good to hear. I just ordered one from Abt Electronics. They have them for $1300 shipped (I didn't have to pay tax or pay for shipping.) I should have mine early next week. Me upgrading my receiver is looooong overdue! My last receiver was a Pioneer VSX-D2S which was only Dolby Pro Logic (no Dolby Digital). I think I bought that thing around 1994. I also upgraded my TV from a 14 year old 27" Sony Trinitron CRT to a 60" Sony Grand Wega SXRD HDTV. I will be hooking up my Time Warner Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR to the Yamaha 2600 (via HDMI) as well as my Oppo OPDV971H DVD Player (also HDMI). I will also be hooking up my XBOX and eventually an XBOX 360 up to it as well. I also have a Panasonic E80 DVD Recorder as well as a standalone Series 2 TIVO that I may eventually hook up to it. Although I have become such a HD snob it is tough for me to bother with SD devices like my TIVO and Panasonic.

Anywho. I would love to hear more experiences or tips for this unit if anyone has any so maybe I can be ready for when mine arrives next week.

As to the heat issue

I find that the 2600, while still warm, is running much cooler than my HTR 5790. I am not sure if the 5790 even had a fan but I think the main reason it is cooler is that it doesn't nearly as much juice to get the same loudness as the 5790 required. It really is a very cool receiver and to my very untrained ears, sounds great.

Yeah, that's the seller. It was a really good transaction, I couldn't pay with paypal, so I had to call and give him my CC info over the phone. He is an authorized Yamaha dealer, you can find him on the Yamaha website, it's Auto Toys in Provo, UT. He was really good to deal with and gave me a very fair price. I bid on the 2600 but someone at his shop sold it the night before, so he offered to let me wait, but I asked if he had a 1600 in stock, as it was really the one I wanted to begin with, and he had it in stock, so he sold me that one instead. I would reccomend him.

Just a Note !

FYI, I found this note across from other forum while I was trying to search for cheaper price till I see the "alert".
The point is just be very cautious to make sure every thing is carefully check thru. Saving some few hundreds is ain't worth it !
Authorized dealer place is much better in this case or the way to go.

You still can't use Presence and Surround back channels at the same time (not even with an outboard stereo power amplifier), can you?

I just picked up the rx-v2600 for $999.00 at a local store in Michigan, outside the Detroit area for anyone interested... I think they may have mismarked it, but maybe not...

Well?
I'm still eagerly waiting for the review on this unit. (Any hints on when?)
(As this model will reach my local stores before new year - the timeframe is almost up  )
