Finally hooked up my Aperions

Well, I finally hooked up the Aperions..didn't hook the sub up yet...Since they're the smaller bookshelf, I'm not sure how full it's supposed to sound in a 15'x15' room...it sounds clear, but not really powerful..maybe once I hook the sub up the entire feeling will change.

With any speaker the sound will change when a subwoofer is added. But what is your impressions of the speakers themselves?

To be honest..somewhat disappointed. I was playing a blu ray movie and it did sound CLEAR..but just not so full.

Yea, I figured you can't have an insane amount of sound coming out of a small speaker...

As far as the sub..I don't have a damn RCA stereo wire, so I'll hook that up tomorrow then update my review.

Once you get your subwoofer hooked up you should notice a huge difference.

I would reccommend if you do not have an SPL meter, maybe think about picking one of those up. Calibrating your speakers and doing it accurately will make your speakers sound way better.

Edit: Mazer beat me to it:):):)

Those 4Bs are satellite speakers. They have four inch woofers, which in those cabinets give an F3 of 120Hz. So they will sound thin and miserable without a sub. You will have to set the crossover at 120 Hz. Unless your sub is right by one of the speakers, you will be aware of the sub. You really need two subs for those with each speaker on top of the sub.

Honestly a speaker like that is not very useful. To be used properly with a sub a speaker needs an F3 of at least 80 Hz.

Move the 4B's to the back, and get the 5B's or 6B's in the Front.

I just briefly researched these recently for someone at a different forum. They have very low sensitivity. Just an FYI. It looks like 84db for the 4b/5b and absurdly low at 82 db for the 6b.

Im sure they sound great, especially with a decent amp, but for HT reference levels I would most definitely look elsewhere unless you are going to have oodles of amp.

The other brand I think of with low sens is Totem, but 82 db is the lowest I've ever seen with modern affordable speakers.

Yep, Alot of the Totems are inefficient but mated to the right amp/receiver, wow can they ever sing!! :)

Apart from the low sensitivity, the reel 3db point being right up at 120 Hz makes them pretty useless. They will take four times the amp power as a as an 88db 1 watt I meter speaker for the same spl.

I have trouble seeing the point of putting a speaker like that together. It seems like a flagrant waste of the Earth's resources to me.

Well, I love big full-range towers, but my first system was the NHT SuperZero monitors + SW2P 10" 80-watt Subwoofer. I thought it sounded great as long as the subwoofer was on. With the subwoofer off, it still sound great and very clear. Of course, there was no bass, but it should still sound clear, not muddy.

Maybe there are other things to consider. Like speaker placement? Room acoustics?

Well, I guess the good thing with Aperion is that you can return those speakers with free shipping back to them if it does not work out. Good luck.

From looking at the Aperion B4 frequency graph, it appears the frequency response on-axis is 100 Hz - 20 kHz +/- 3dB @ 85 dB w/m, and the minimal impedance is 7 ohms.

Yea...feel AWESOME! lol

Well, it's in my bedroom, and as far as moving the 4Bs to the back and get the 5Bs to the front..if money weren't an issue, then sure lol.

Still debating whether or not I want ot keep these. I'm trying to get my Dayton sub to work..not sure what's wrong with it..it's all crackly.

As far as me getting different speakers..for around $130 a speaker, which these cost..anything a little more full in sound.

Also..I don't have an amp..just the receiver in my signature.

EDIT: Actually..lets say $200 a speaker..and in the $150 price range..a smaller sub.. The Dayton Sub is really too big for my room..since I run a gym..I'll hook this up in the cardio class room and write myself out a check :D

How is the Usher S-520? I can get it for $420 for the pair...

And as far as a sub..anything more SLIM than the Dayton I bought..it's a beast.

The Ushers are very nice. Excellent tweeter. Need a good subwoofer with them.

I'm going to make a suggestion. Since you have about $550 to spend. How about purchasing a pair of towers, and holding off on the sub until funds are available to purchase a quality sub?
