Finally got some pics of the setup...

Well after 3 months of you guys listening to me ask relentless questions, solicit advice, and piss and moan... I've finally got thing about 95% done. I'm still waiting for the new couches and some new artwork, but beyond that things are good.

I took some pics of the equipment and the room itself so you can kinda see what I've been up against. The wall that the tv is on used to be a triple glass door going out to the pool area. You can see that the room itself isn't very wide and I can't imagine why anyone (future owners of the home as well) would want to have to push their couch against the glass door to watch a tv on the other wall. That's why I took the glass door out and had the wall built. There's 2 other triples and 1 other double going to the pool... we're not gonna miss this 3rd triple.

Anyway, it's hard to tell from the pics, but it's actually much darker in the room than the pics lead you to believe. The tv wall is a really dark army olive green and the lighter walls are very muted sage color. Everything looks good even in the daytime.

Here's a whole room view and a shot of the equipment cabinet. There's the Pioneer Elite 94TXH, HD-DVR, Sunfire Theater Grand, OPPO 980H, and my old standby Adcom CD changer. I left a nice big spot for the HTPC/Media Server.

Very nice, but I would pull those front towers away from the back wall by at least a few more inches if you can. And get the definitive logo on that center channel asap! How do you like the diamond series mitsu?

Thanks. I made 2 small tape marks on the floor to reposition the speakers for more critical listening. I move the forward about another 6-8 inches which seems to work really well. For normal everyday, though I push them to the back marks so they're more out of the way. Also, the tables the surrounds are on will also be replaced. Those are just stand-ins for now until the new stuff comes. For movie watching, I slide them out further from the couch and of course face them the correct way.

It's funny you said that about the logo because I set it out and now I can't find it. It's around somewhere and I just have to figure out where the wife put my little box of stuff.

The TV is great... better than great. I've got it dialed in pretty well using some calibration settings I got from the AVS forum. The fan noise is a bit loud, but I'm getting used to it. That would be my only complaint, but it's inherent with DLPs and there's not much you can do about it. We're waiting for the new area rug and couches and table to come in. I think that will help a lot in absorbing ambient sounds. We have to large 4x5 oil canvases coming for the wall behind the couch as well. The big problem is the massive glass cabinet next to the fireplace. We just got that specifically for that spot, but I just wasn't thinking about accoustics. At some point, we may actually try flipping the room around, though I like the tv on the dark wall. We'll see.

I just realized I put an incorrect pic in. That's my pool, not my wall. I don't have the pic of the wall, but then again... it's just shot of a stucco wall... no one's missing anything I guess.

nice clean setup chris. as mentioned can you move the mains forward? i know the lines look clean the way they are, but moving them forward will most likely improve the sound. My mains are dipole and are about a foot ahead of my display, asteics wise not the best but sound is;)

Yeah I can move them forward. You just skipped over my earlier comment. I have a tendancy to ramble. When I turn the system on for more critical listening I move them forward just about an additonal 8 inches. I put two sets of tape marks on the floor to mark each position.

You're abosutely right in that it makes a hugh difference.

I need to get some pics of my setup posted up... I'm just lazy I guess. I really need to pull everything out one day and clean up all the wiring, but it's such a hassle and a 2 person job with the size and weight of some of my stuff.

Hey Chris,

It is all looking VERY good. Nice setup and a beautiful house. The wires did turn out great. Looks like you did get the wire pants to fit over the pair of wires and the shrink wrap makes them look very professional.

Great Job.:D

Well first of all, I hate you mostly because of the lagoon pool.;) Secondly, you probably have me confused with SethV, who has Martin Logans. I have a set of Bookshelf speakers, they weigh about 15-20 pounds a piece.

I hate him because his house (or at least that room) is spotless.

No kids or pets, huh?

Okay yeah... I was gonna say... I mean it's flattering and all, but the other Seth has 10 billion dollar setup... Geez!

The pool is great. We spend a lot of time out there. We don't have a lot of free time these days to get out... besides a long weekend here or there, so it's nice just being able to retreat out back. It's almost like being some place else with the convenience of your own fridge.

Thanx for the compliments!~

Actually we have a 14 year old daughter. She's kinda of neat freak if you believe that! And... we have a 21 pound monster cat that's the size of small dog. I kinda of a neat freak too, so i just try to pick up after myself and clean a bit when I see a mess. If we let it go, it just becomes a disaster that takes all day to tidy up.

Believe though, it has it's moments. This weekend my daughter is having her birthday party... movie night.. with 6 of her very best friends. Believe me, they'll trash the place.

I had to cut the small shutes really short and force the shrinkwrapped wire through. It took a few times doing it wrong until I got everything in order of how it had to be put together. I'm happy with how they came out.

I don't hate you...but it's hard not to be a little envious. That's a really nice setup you have.

I'm groovin' on the pool too.:D
