A few years ago, long before I started learning about DIY audio and such I bought a RCA HTiB and wasn't really satisfied with it's sound. It seemed to totally lack mid-bass, and the sub sucked. So I built a sub out of stuff I had laying around (I'm a college student with no $$ )

I stuffed my new sub with asousta-stuff and loved the sound.
So I decided to pull the RCA satellites apart. I figured maybe some ascousta-stuff would deaden the enclosures a bit and improve the sound. Upon pulling them apart, I found out why there was
no mid-bass! RCA had put a
high-pass filter at 500 Hz inside the enclosure! So today I removed these filters and WOW! The system sounds a million times better! I was actually able to turn down the sub (which I was using to compensate for the lack of mid-bass) and now the system as a whole sounds much better!
I'm glad this forum has inspired me to improve things and that I took those apart!
I tested them out with some Pink Floyd and watched 3:10 to Yuma, and what a difference!
