On the front. Behind the front door.
That receiver needs room to breath. At least 2 inches on top. If it's real tight you should seriously consider a cooling fan.
I'll have about 5" on the top. Its just after I push the receiver into the center, any subsequebt connections will be difficult to do.

I've less than a 12 hour window for me to install this unit into my HT equipment rack without the wife knowing about it.
LOL! HURRY! You got about 6 hours and change left? lol

Congrats!

Well its purchased and installed in the new systeem. Only took me 3 hours to figure out how to get the video portion done but hey, its all working. To be fair though, I had wired in a short by mistake and the receiver gave me the warning so I ripped off all the connections again and started over from scratch. Its a very difficult place to work as well but ist now working.

Its solved my dilemna with my video siwtching needs. I haven't played much audio thru it yet so I can't give an honest opinion yet to see if the amps on this beast are better than my old Technics 940. I have been too busy reading the manual. I want to know this receiver inside and out. So far, I'm very happy with my purchase.

I have a shot of picking up a brnad new never been taken out of the box Yamaha RXV1800 for $850 Cdn from an authorized dealer not including taxes. Do you think this is a good buy?
I have a question is the Yamaha HTR 6190 the same receiver as the RXV1800!!

If so, than I'm switching to Yamaha because Future Shop is having a pre boxing day sale which starts tomorrow and it selling for $699.99:D.

I'm on their mailing list:D. Also by clicking on the flyers ikon at the top of the FS home page and entering your postal code, you'll be able to broswe through all the pending flyers.:)

Right now, I'm torn between the Denon 989 or this Yamaha. :(
This price is sooo.. tempting, I can't afford to be biased towards Denon.

tough choice :D sucks to be you ;)

Both are very capable machines .. I guess you'll have to do a quick san thru the features to see what you would use the most and what is easiet for you and go with that one. Or buy both if you can't decide !! :p

When I was in Chapter last week I read a review on the 989 and was impressed with the bench test data. I wanted to buy the magazine but the line up was at least a hundred feet long. That being said, you can't find a better deal than that Yamaha for 699. It beats the 989 in features and most likely in power and costs less, in this case.

It really boils down to this: Will the audyssey multi eq correction system which the Denon employs impact the SQ more so than that of the YPAO used by yamaha?

I don't think there's much doubt that the Audyssey is better. I'm not sure exactly how much impact that will truly have on the sound in real life.
My understanding is that the sound benefits from the multi-position readings of Audessey, but the despite the bad rap YPAO has received, it has always done a pretty good job for me. The version on the 1800 seems to be improved over that of the 1500.

Since I'll be the one sitting in the prime location, either one of these AVRs with auto calibration would suffice and I'll eventually fine tune everything anyways:). BTW there was no mention of a variable crossover adjustment(which would've been nice to see) or was this just oversight on my part.:(
Otherwise, this unit looks very solid and for 699.99cdn that can't be beat and it will offer me the flexibility and future proof with 5 hdmi's 4 in & 1 out!!

Thank you gents, Bill :)

I can only offer my own limited experiences. I've only used the XT version, and only recently at that. I've calibrated a couple of times now. I think its awesome, and that's after 9 large acoustic panels in the HT. I think the treatments did more than Audyssey did, but the latter did as much to still make me think about it. That good, IMO, subjectively speaking. I in fact think its the must value-laden feature one can get in a receiver, outside of the most basic things like having a pre/amp and receiver. Seriously.

I was so impressed with it, I immediately started to look towards such an addition to my stereo. I have this little dream that 2-ch integrateds or receivers can come supplied with Audyssey product. However, I doubt it will happen for anything reasonable, if ever. The economies of scale in the mid-level HT receivers make that the most affordable way to add it. I've actually thought about it, but am sitting still on that one.

While I don't know about regular MultEQ, the XT should be providing hundreds of filters, for great resolution. This version has been said to really provide the biggest improvement over regular MEQ in the additional filters for the sub. Here is something that "Audyssey" said very recently in his support thread in describing a little about how it works. Before I paste the quote, I cannot offer anything subjectively as to how much better it would sound than YPAO, MCAAC, and the like. YMMV.

"When you measure with pink noise, that information can not be captured. When you measure with an impulse response method and deconvolve the measured response, you get a nice picture of the time domain behavior of the speaker. Direct sound in a big burst arrives first, then the first reflection a few ms later, then the next reflection, etc. Eventually, the reflections start to bunch together in time and become a statistical field that has no direction. That is called the reverberant field. The trick in proper measurement is to know how to weigh the direct, early, and late arrival of sound in this impulse response."

The best thing about the latest Audessey is that it EQs the Sub as well, which is really beneficial. If you like listening to 2ch music from all speakers (ie, Neo 6 or PLII music) then the Audessey's strength really comes out. When I had the Denon 788, the sound quality was better than my Yamaha 6160, especially, the smoothness of the rear speakers.

But I'll be honest, if I didn't own a HDMI receiver, I'd jump at the 6190 for $699. It's built very well and Yamaha and Energy combo is very complementary.

Hi Blue, merry x-mass! Man, this deal was too hard to pass up and I ordered the 6190 last night. Future shop did lower the price on the Denon 989 to $999.99 but that was at the upper limit of my budget. So, finally I'll get around to watching the rest of my BR collection:D. As for music, 90% of the time, I listened in direct mode with/without the sub. Having saved about $300 with this receiver, in all likelihood I'll put the money saved towards the 10's.:D

Ps: Did you bite on the deal for the 50's?
Regards, Bill :)

Supposedly, the RX-V1800 has the same pre-amp circuits and performance of the RX-V2600/2700, which are stellar. Just with reduced amplifier section. It also has great cosmetics wit that polished/anodized front panel with very few buttons for a sleek look. The functions/buttons are hidden behind a metal door on the front. I would buy it just for pre-amp and video switching/upscaling if you just want a superb quality device such as that. You could use the built in amp too, of course, and later on add some outboard amps. :) I use a RX-V2600 for a pre amp only and could not be happier.

Merry X-mas to you to, brother. No, I decided to keep my RC30s. I think when the time comes to upgrade, I'll probably move to Paradigm Signatures - ie something of a significant jump. My room is small enough that I don't think the RC50s would make much difference.

I've read some of the reviews and they all point to the prowess of this unit to upscale is excellent. I guess we'll find out how good, in a few days.:)

Thanks, Bill:)
