I have to say Paradigm because that is what I have always had, simply due to the fact that the local dealer only sells Paradigm, and I am in the boonies. I know that isn't a very good reason.

I hope/plan/intend to have a major upgrade shortly after I move in a few months, and on my list of speaker lines to audition include Def Tech, Paradigm Studio, and PSB Synchrony or Imagine. I also want to check out Infinity and Polk at the top of their product lines. I kind of shy away from B&W because of their price points, but who knows. There are probably more that I will come up with when that time comes. :D

Hsu

I realize this brand is less known, but I really, really like my Hsu system. My wife freaked when she saw the size of the VTF-3 MK 3 sub, as we have a small house, but it's now covered in a cloth and doubles as an end-table for our sofa !

I haven't heard many of the other brands mentioned here except for what's available in stores. I did listen to some B & W, but concluded that I could get close to that quality for less money.

In another store I did auditon Klipsch (RB81 fronts) but wasn't really impressed. I also heard some Polks that were OK.

Also, I meant to say that my research into speakers began with and was guided by a lot of consulting various threads here on Audioholics. Thanks to you all!

I do like Polk Audio a lot, but I am quite impressed with Emotiva's ERM-6.2 speaker as well. Maybe even a little more than Polk Audio...:) I vote other, for the ERM-6.2.

As a couple others have mentioned, I picked Paradigm (Studio or Signature) because they were the best of the limited choices I had. I have owned Infinity and Klipsch as well. Did a fair amount of auditioning of other brands like Energy, DefTech and Polk. I did like Infinity. The cliche of Klipsch being bright/fatiguing held true for me. The DefTechs I heard were underwhelming. To be fair, I don't think the dealer had them set up properly. I would really like to hear the PSB Synchrony One because of all the great reviews I've read on them. I auditioned some Vandersteens a while back too. They were very good, I just liked the Paradigm sound better.

Aperion Audio. It's what I own and listen to every day. Each and every time I thoroughly enjoy the experience. I have never regretted purchasing the speakers.

If I had to pick another brand, it would be Bowers and Wilkins (B&W).

Although I own several brands of speakers and like them all, I picked Paradigm as my favourite. I picked them because, if I were in the market for speakers right now, I would like to have some Studios. However, those Axioms look tempting as well....

My vote goes to RBH and Salk, both very good performers.

My favorite were Paradigm Sig 8. Couldn't afford them so I went with Studio 100's.

I stand by my MB Quarts. They are 9 years old, but they kick a.. Can't beat the build quality, sound quality and output. Nothing but compliments from everyone who listens for years.....

Not to mention, I don't think anyone on this forum has my exact speakers. It is kind of nice to have something unique.

BTW:

I have also owned:
Infinity
JBL
Polk

Most were entry level though.

Good thread. Good Idea.

Even though I have heard better speakers as a company I like Ascend Acoustics as a brand the best.

I vote "other". The best speaker I ever heard was by PMC, so I'd have to say them. I like Tannoy too, the Mercury F2 is one of the best entry level speakers I'd wager. I've got a pair of those.

I've always been intrigued by Axiom. I may have to try them one day, even though I think PMC is in a whole other league. PMC is sheer class.

I,m going with the Polk's for this one. Have found some great deals on this brand and although I have not achieved an audiophile set-up I can really get some serious sound with my Polk's. In a nutshell, for us on budget, the performance\price ratio appears to be good.

Drawback is the speakers I now have recently acquired seem very power hungry. Considering an Emo to provide the final punch.

Very curious to hear some Axioms, and others in mid price range some day.

I'd go with Ascend Acoustics at this point. I like their approach. Low-keyed and all about the sound, afaict. David F. seems to be a total speaker geek, which is what you want running a speaker company.

Plus the fact that they're ID also allows the consumer the advantage of completely bypassing the reseller network and not having to deal with BS such as MSRPs, plus seems to help sell a high performance low cost product... Plus the design philosophy really fits with what I crave, performance oriented high bang for the buck products... (performance as in, per speaker engineering goals, and not in all the BS which plagues the audio world...)

Couldn't be happier with 340SEs, and later the Sierras... Lucky for me they don't come out with new speakers very often :D
