That kid drummer in Santana who blew everyone away with his performance during "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock.
I had not heard about that incident. The kid in question is, of course, no longer a kid. Does anyone know who he is? Is he known only for that, or did he join a band and become famous?

A single percussionist, no matter how good, is not someone I'd spend a whole evening on going to see in concert.
If it were Neil, I would.:) I admit it would be fatiguing, though (for him and the audience both!) I would buy a solo CD (drums/percussion only, no singing) from him.

Incident? lol... I meant that he blew away the audience with his drumming, especially his solo, if you get a chance to see the Woodstock video, you'll see what I mean. And of course I meant he was a kid then, not now, some 38 years hence. I don't know what's become of him, but for a single performance, it was hard to top.

I knew what you meant. It would be interesting to find out his name. It might turn out to be somebody we have all heard of.

Too much talking and analysis, not enough actual performance. Appreciate the thought, though.
(I tried a couple of Rush concert DVDs and was disappointed by the sound quality, even though the performances themselves were great.)

Cool. Glad he has remained active in music, even though he never "made it big". A lot of interesting collaborations on that list. Says he was 20 at Woodstock, which doesn't seem all that young (I bet a lot of the musicians at Woodstock were younger than that.)
Actually, if you read that Wickipedia post a little more closely, it says that he was the youngest musician performing at Woodstock. He might have been 20, but he looked 12!

I know it said that, but it still seems surprising. I would think that out of all those bands, somebody would have had to be under 20!

I have Rush in Rio. The SQ is good, but the crowd is too loud. It does give a feeling of being in the crowd though.

The SQ on Hallucino Genetics by Primus is superb. Outstanding performance by all three members as well. One of my favorites. My wife hates them. You know women want a pretty boy up front.

Yep, I admit I'm a big fan of Neil Peart, like many of the rest of you. But in addition to Peart, I'd highly recommend Carl Palmer (ELP), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), and here's one out of left field - solo percussionist Evelyn Glennie. Check her out here:

I've seen her live and she's incredible!

My absolute fav is Neil Peart. Followed by Lars Ulrich, Alex Van Halen, and Tommy Lee to name a few. There are others, but these come to my mind instantly.

Cheers,

Phil

Drummers to me are a lot like bass players. You can just sit there and play the beat, or you can really take it to another level and be your own lead in a way and add something special. The drummer and lead singer from Godsmack, Shannon Larkin and Sully Erna, do these drumming duets in concert that are just really cool. Not only do they play well, but their showmanship is 2nd to none.

here' s cool clip... it's about 5 mintutes or so but really worth the watch:
