Welcome to the forum! That was very nice of your wife to get those for you. As you know, those are unpowered speakers. Your best bet if you want to keep those is to get a receiver, and that's for two reasons: (1) it will power the speakers, and (2) it will convert the audio output from your TV into surround sound for use with those speakers.
You can get a receiver for about $100 if you aren't looking for a lot of fancy features, and you can find them used, but it is one more box to place in the system. You might want to consider the total cost of the speakers and receiver and (if you can return the speakers) look at getting a powered soundbar if you aren't looking for rear surround sound.
