Hey everyone, new guy here just registered for the site. My wife just bought me a Sony SS-CR3000 Home Theater Speaker system for my TV. She didn't realize that they do not hook up directly to the TV. Could you guys help a newb and point me in the right direction of what I need to install these speakers, preferably something on the less expensive side? Here is a link to the system... It won't let me post links since I just registered, please Google...

Welcome to the forum! That was very nice of your wife to get those for you. As you know, those are unpowered speakers. Your best bet if you want to keep those is to get a receiver, and that's for two reasons: (1) it will power the speakers, and (2) it will convert the audio output from your TV into surround sound for use with those speakers.

You can get a receiver for about $100 if you aren't looking for a lot of fancy features, and you can find them used, but it is one more box to place in the system. You might want to consider the total cost of the speakers and receiver and (if you can return the speakers) look at getting a powered soundbar if you aren't looking for rear surround sound.

Thank you Adam! I will try to return it to the store and pick up a powered soundbar. Not ready to make the leap into the full surround sound system. Thanks again for the help!
