Just got back on my search for a power strip with a right angle plug and 6 ft. cord. Amazingly difficult to find. It also needed to be white and basically thin...this bad boy which is made by Belkin.
Anyways, found something suitable at Officemax and they offered me an extended service plan for $3.00 more! I s'pose I really shouldn't be surprised <sigh>.

They gotta make money somehow, and I'm sure someone out there is dumb enough to actually get the service plan for it.

I think that the lady at Starbucks gave me an extended warranty last week. Either that or she just overcharged me. Probably the latter...

well, there is another way to look at that,

why do you need a new power strip ?

are you replacing a broken one ?

those extended warranties are not as crazy as you think IMO,

I had bought a basic office chair from office depot for $90,well a couple years later it started making a loud noise,so I called up the warranty co and told them, and they right away sent me a gift card for the entire purchase price and I did'nt have to take the chair back or ship it,I just kept it,I ended up giving it away to someone, but I thought it was a pretty good deal.

that's just my .02

Seriously, I have no life.

Can't buy a new one for $3. At least, not until the first one kicks the bucket and the same things costs $2.50.

I like extended warranty when the device will be used in a very hostile environment or it's just prohibitively expensive to repair and the original warranty is much shorter than the normal life span. A $300 TV doesn't warrant a $150 extended warranty when it comes with a 3 year warranty but a $4000 plasma with a 1 year P & L could cost $2500 to replace the panel just over a year out. Another good example of it being worthwhile is car audio. If the ext warranty covers removal and reinstallation, it's a better deal than if it's just the equipment. For those who can install their own, it's not such a great deal.

A lot of larger stores and chains just use it as a slush fund and take profit from it over time so it's a matter of choosing wisely.

Only things, imho, that warrant extended warranties/service plans:

1) Emerging technology
2) Used Cars
3) Purchasing a home (for appliances and such)
4) Crappy, cheap new cars

Offering an extended warranty or service plan for a surge protector or power strip is simply being greedy. It was a 2 for 1 deal and I needed an additional strip for convenience sake.

I recently bought a 2 pack of 6 outlet power strips at lowes for about $6, even though it doesn't offer any type of surge protection, I didn't really need that anyway. But I would sooner just buy another pair of them, or get something better altogether before I get a protection plan on something that inexpensive.
