When i play a reg cd through my 6 analogs, shouldnt i be hearing it in all my speakers because i'm not getting anything in my rears. If a play a DTS Disc or a SACD i do or 5ch stereo or DPL 2. Anything else that should be works but for a reg cd. I thought it would be a full signal to all speakers?

the ext in on a 2805 can only play what it receives from the cd/dvd player. a regular cd is only a 2 channel source, and therefore no information is being transmitted to the rears from the cd/dvd player

Sound from rears

Unless you turn on a DSP mode like Dolby PLII or DTS NEO:6. They take the 2 channel signal and output sound to all speakers.

I'm not absolutely sure, but DSP modes may not work with EXT. IN.

On Yamahas, at least, they do do not. I can't imagine it being any different on other brands. Multi-In depends on the DVD player to do the work of decoding. With a 2 channel CD thru Multi-In all you will get is 2 channels.
Use the digital connections to get simulated surround thru PLII, DTS, or other DSPs.

Some DVD players have an additional 2 ch output. If you want to use a DSP mode to hear your music out of all channels this would be the way to go.

You should not need to use ANY DSP for multichannel SACD, DVD-A or DTS cds, and in most cases, they will not work with SACD and DVD-A via analog or on the EXT inputs. Few receivers allow this. If you are using these modes for SACD it would lead me to believe you have somthing setup wrong.

Everything works like it should on my receiver and player but i'm not sure when using the ext in with a cd if it is suppose to play through all speakers or just not through the surrounds.

2ch only because the DVD player is only sending out what ever signal is being played on the disc. So if it is only 2 ch (CD) you will only get sound from the Front R/L channels.

It is an anaolg connection, which means most receivers consider that to be already processed. As incrimedefense mentioned, your receiver should play whatever it receives on those channels only, and for standard redbook CDs, that means stereo only; no sub because that is all that is recorded on the CD. A multichannel SACD should give you surround and sub, and you should not be able to, nor need to, use DSPs.
