It won't measure better. I have measured quite a few CD players going back to 1984, and they all measure excellent.
I agree, the McIntosh probably won't measure better. In fact, if it uses a discrete component analog driver stage it might measure worse!

As for CD players all being "excellent" since 1984, I disagree. Relatively poor low-level linearity combined with low over-sampling rates and the resulting necessary "brick wall" digital filters made the players after about 2001 or so measure far better. Your 20KHz sine wave displays you like to post don't tell the whole story, IMO.

Thanks for all the help to all.

People wondering about my motives I see. Flat out knowledge. I'd be willing to bet the Oppo and McIntosh are indistinguishable but I'd like to understand and be able to articulate it myself as to why. I can't accept "they all sound the same" without reasons. Why should others accept that of me?

I am still not real clear but I guess having never studied this stuff it's the best I am gonna get at understanding it.

Anyone know of a DAC 101 tutorial I can view? I am visual and lean best through the use of flowcharts.

peace out all

I'll have more questions on this in a few no doubt, I need to crystalize my questions. In the mean time, tutorial for the enthusiast?????
