I have been given two estimates from Best Buy AV and a local AV company and one has suggested Yamaha receiver which I am familiar with, but the local guy suggested the Pioneer 1018 AV 7.1 receiver. Is the Pioneer a good system. I am building a 35 X15 ft dedicated HT room.

Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer and Marantz all make great AVRs. It just comes down to having the features you want and enough power to drive your speakers.

Give us more details of what you want.

Here is what I have in mind

I will have 1 pr fronts, 1 center, 1 12 inch sub (or maybe 2), AND 1 pr of surrounds, and rear dipole speakers.

I will have a blu ray hooked up, X box 360,

I have a room that is 35 X 15 ft with 10ft high ceilings and a 15 inch riser that runs 15 ft from the screen to the back of the room.

I will only have movies and football games played in this dedicated HT room.

What speakers are you driving?

Is OSD important to you?

What is the AVR budget?

Seriously, I have no life.

And to add, or ask, how much bass do you desire? How loud do you like your movies? How far away from the speakers will you be sitting?

This is a very large room, 5000+ cuft that would need a very capable sub, and, depending on listening distance and the speakers as asked, would determine power needs.

Here

The first row of seats will be apprx 15 ft away from the screen and the back row about 23 ft away.

The speakers suggested are either Def Tech's, Atlantic Technology 4200's, or maybe AV 123's

Not sure what the speaker sensitivity is for them, but you should be ok with either of those receivers plus capable subs as they are the ones that need a lot of power to fell the effects:D
