Everyone hates Raymond?

I just noticed that Everyone Loves Raymond won a bunch of Emmys again. Does anyone under the age of 50 like this show?? The few times I have watched it, I found the humor obvious and the show itself extremely boring and uneventful. It seems like a show about nothing, but it ain't no Seinfeld!!

Maybe I just expect a little more complexity from comedies. What the hell is so funny about an overbearing family!! I call that horror, not comedy.

I thought the dad / grandfather was kind of funny because he's an *$&hole, but the rest of the cast is so dry and uninteresting. If those are what wives are really like, I'm glad I don't have one!!! Like I said - scary, not funny.

Not being under fifty, I guess I don't qualify for the survey.......never seen the show and have no intention of starting now ;)

I actually enjoy the show, but not as much as some of the others. Not sure I would call Desp. Houswives a 'comedy' either.

Scrubs is one of the funniest and most creative shows I have seen in ages.

All these silly awards shows are way behind the times and very slow to change. To much sentimentality towards actors who have been in the business for years instead of recognizing new ideas. Kind of like most areas of the world... big business, very slow to change, impossible to deal with.

I'll second that. Everyone should watch this show and see how funny a comedy can be!!!

If one likes dark sarcasm, House is a funny/some what drama type show.

I am in that category - I don't find the show funny at all.

Scrubs is definitely well done and quite funny.

House is a great show, also a new one that is out that looks good is Head Cases. If you want some fun humor and sci-fi check out Firefly!

Seriously off-topic, but what the heck. Firefly, not being a comedy, has some of the funniest lines I've ever heard on TV. Or in the movies, for that matter. Unfortunately, any one of these lines can be best appreciated in its context. So if you haven't seen the show, go rent the gorram DVDs already and have a good hearty laugh. You'll be glad you did.

There are some funny bits on Everybody Loves Raymond, but they're few and far between. My parents love the show, however. Maybe it is a generational thing . . .

And personally, I think the wife on ELR is a bit of hottie, in a MILF kinda way. (Sorry for being so crude!)

Oh, and Scrubs is indeed one of the funniest comedies on TV.

cheers,

I've only seen a bit of ELR, and it sucked. But I'm with the others on Scrubs....Hillarious!

I can't stand ERL... and I don't even know why exactly. If I want a laugh, I turn on Family Guy. It doesn't get any funnier.

This thread reminds me why I watch almost no television shows! IMOHO, 97% of everything on the tube is designed for morons. And with a few exceptions, the more popular a show is the more certain it is to be extra stupid.

LOL Agreed--I almost never watch network TV. What few I watch are all on cable (mostly Sci-Fi & Discovery).

Oh, how snooty!

Reminds me of a **** Van Dyke episode where he's around some snooty rich people and they ask what he does and he says he writes for a television program and they go, "We don't even own a television machine."

There are many programs on TV that I think are stupid but I'm not so arrogant as to call people who watch it "morons."

As far as Scrubs, I don't get that. I watched the first episode and thought, "Well, this crap won't last."

(edit:) Wow. I can't say D-ick? I'm surprised I was allowed to say DYKE! ;) (end edit)

Family guy, Futurama, Simpsons, all classics. Discovery has some good shows....but they are more for interest, rather then comedy.

One show i love is the daily show with jon stewart, great show.

Okay, that does sound a bit snooty...But to be fair I never said those who watch those shows are morons. I said the shows seem to be designed for morons- there's a big difference.

Anyway, it's certainly not that anything popular is bad. It just seems that nearly every interesting, creative or innovative "outside-the-box" show gets cancelled immediately while the most incredibly banal, mindnumbing crap (eg Raymond or COPS) will run til Doomsday. ;)

I tend to watch Discovery HD, or TNT HD since I only have 6 HD channels (if I want ultra clear programming). It's hard to believe Time Warner can't do better than 6. For the price they charge, they can at least throw in some sports HD channels. 160 channels, and 6 are in HD!

I think you have to come from a certain type of family to understand ELR. If your mother is like Raymonds, and your wife resembles his, then you'd get the humor. If not, it's not all that good.
