Equipment Closet Placement

Hi all,

I'm setting up my living room A/V wiring (house is gutted), and am having trouble finding space for a closet to hold the equipment. The TV is above the fireplace mantle, and I want all of the equipment hidden.

I can build a closet but I'm having trouble figuring out where. I don't want it to seem out of place along the wall in the living room. I'm contemplating the basement, but that would be a hassle for changing xbox games/dvd's. I think all of the other equipment would be fine down there.

Has anyone else run into this problem? And for anyone else that has hidden all of their equipment in a separate room, how do you deal with the gaming systems? Do the game controllers even work if the system is in a nother room?

Here is a picture of the layout. The TV will be above the fireplace, the couch may be moved back slightly.

I was going to make a small closet in the sunroom, but the windows on the sides come too close to the wall that the closet would be on (the closet would overlap the window)

I then thought maybe under a counter in the kitchen (away from any water supplies haha). But would rather not take up space in the kitchen.

The overall floor plan open and not very large, so just throwing up a closet could end up being a real eyesore.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Given your pic, i would say front right hand side of the fireplace

I don't think I would go with a closet but rather a decorative piece of furniture (possibly custom). Something to match the kitchen perhaps

Are those a set of stairs to the left of the couch?
If so how about a closet built in under there?

Depends on what you really want overall. In my old home I put my equipment in the basement and I put a secondary small rack to the right of the couch with the TV and couch in almost the exact same setup that you have. You can put your A/V receiver and cable box in the basement, but run HDMI up to the TV and to the wall behind the couch during construction. I ran 3 pieces of HDMI to my aux. rack location and 9 pieces of Cat-5/6 cabling. This way I was covered for the future. I also ran a piece of HDMI from the aux. rack to the TV (just in case) and a piece of cat-6 from the aux. rack to the TV (just in case). I ran 1 HDMI and 3 pieces of cat-5/6 to the TV from the main rack location. It covers me for after the drywall is in place, and allows me to use HDMI extenders if I need them, or USB or other items. For example, my Wii sensor bar is connected from the Wii, to relays in my basement which allows different sensor bars to be used depending on which TV in my home is currently using the Wii.
