The EQ is and ADC Stereo Shaper one 10 EC
On the Back- In Out Tape 1 In Out Tape 2 In Out
On the Front- 4 Push buttons Monitor 1, Monitor2, Line Record, Bypass

Reveiver: Mitsubishi R10
On Back- Phono, Aux, Tape 1 Play Rec Tape 2 Play Rec Plugs 2 switched 1 unswitched
On the FRont - 2 turn knobs
Knob 1 RECORD SELECTOR Phono, Aux, Tuner, Tape 1, Tape 2
Knob 2 PROGRAM SELECTOR Phono, Aux, Tuner, Tape 1, Tape 2

Two Tape Decks TAPE 1 ION Two Cassette TAPE 2 TEAC one Cassette

I have hooked up in every possible configuration and at best I either get 1 tape to play with both EQ monitor buttons depressed and not the other
OR
I cannot equalize any tape play.

My Config Now IS
Tape 1 OUT to EQ Tape1 IN
Tape 1 IN to RCVR Tape1 REC
EQ Tape1 Out to RCVR Tape 1 Play

Tape 2 OUT to EQ Tape2 IN
Tape 2 IN to RCVR Tape2 REC
EQ Tape2 Out to RCVR Tape 2 Play NO SOUND
CD and PHONOS got To RCVR AUX and PHONO
This leaves the EQ IN OUT EMPTY

What do I get? Tape 1 only Equalized Only if both Monitor 1 2 are depressed
Tape 1 Cassette 2 carriage But only the Left Channel Eqlz'd
Nada Tape 2 at all
Radio, Phono CD ok but not equalized.
H E L P!!! I've spent 10-20 hours on this and since everything is shelved and behind furniture my back is broken.

My Goal To EQUALIZE Every Thing I play. Or at Least the Tapes
I DO NOT NEED TO EQUALIZE While Recording On To a Tape.
PLease Note The Receiver says PLAY and REC.
But I think those are reversed defined from the IN OUT on the other components. In other words I think Play is NOT OUT on the Receiver but IN, whereas it would be OUT on the EQ or Tape decks.

There is only one way to hook this up.

Receiver tape out to the tape in on the equalizer. This is the line in. Equalizer out to the tape in on the receiver. This is the line out of the EQ.

Now tape 1: - tape in on the recorder to tape 1 out on the equalizer. Tape out on the recorder to tape in on the equalizer.

Now tape 2: - tape in on the recorder to tape 2 out on the equalizer.
Tape out on the recorder to tape 2 in on the equalizer.

That will give you two tape monitor loops, and you can Eq record or playback and defeat Eq.

All tape equalizers work this way, by the way.

That is all there is to it. Its the way it works and that's the final answer.
