So, quick update on what has become quite the ordeal...

Got my first unit Monday - the focus dial was jammed! Must have been mis-threaded or something. Had to send it back.

Second unit came Wednesday - it had a color "bleed" effect... The top was bleeding cyan for about 2 inches and the bottom was bleeding magenta for about 2 inches on a full white image. So, back it went as well. Hope to get #3 next week, but I don't know if I can keep this up.

BTW, the guy calibrating it gave me the ISF report (done on the middle of the screen ) - he basically said it took very little effort to get it calibrated. The thing was gorgeous other than the bleed effect...


Has anyone seen what happened to the second unit? What might cause something like that? Is it a bad lens?

A local home theater place did the order and is helping with the install. They have been great through this, and equally baffled by the situation.

I haven't heard of these kinds of issues with Epson PJs hence my recommendation of them.

Though I prefer DLP projectors so I'm not as familiar with the LCD projectors

I noticed that the serial numbers on the 2 units were very close (4 numbers apart). I'm wondering if perhaps something happened to one of their lots.

I wasn't expecting anything like this either. I'd heard nothing like this happening to the Epson projectors. Hopefully we'll get it resolved in the next one.

Good to hear. I know Epson's usually are very reliable, but PJs are inherently unreliable. So keep that in mind.

Nothing like a PJ even a lower Quality one will change your movie viewing habits.

Make sure to calibrate! I've read from an extremely reliable source that the Epsons have more OTB unit-to-unit variation than other brands. That doesn't mean they don't kick butt, just FWIW. IOW, don't rely on a different owner's settings.
