ep2500 help

I have an ep2500 and I am using 1 channel for my buttkickers and it works great.

I thought I would use the other ep2500 channel for the center speaker.
I hooked it up and I get hiss even with the volume muted. I also get hum. I have disconnected the input from the amp and I can crack the gain to 100% on the ep2500 and no noise on the center.

I have tried a cheater plug for the ep2500 and also a art clean box on my yamaha htr-6060 (rxv-661 equivalent). I can elimate all noise by lowering the gains on the clean box and ep2500 but then I cannot get enough level through the trim to match the spl of my other speakers.

Even with the art clean box I cannot get the ep2500 to show a solid signal light.

Could the yamaha have noisy pre-outs? Maybe the output is too low even with the cleanbox for the ep2500?

Should I scrap the idea or lower the rest of my trims on the avr to make the center spl be the same. I am down approx 10db on the center if I have no hum or hiss with the avs trim set to max.

i have my LCR's running with EP2500's with my AVR trims near 0db.

try 0db with the gain knob high (mine's around 10-11 o clock, albeit with no cleanbox in the chain)

what i DO have though that could be the clincher ... is an RCA to XLR connection. what are you using? XLR=> 1/4" TRS >RCA input in terms of signal. try the XLR or TRS.

I have tried rca to 1/4 trs. And also the art cleanbox outputs xlr. So maybe I need rca to xlr. I do not have one maybe I will order one. The yamaha has a 1v preout I think this may cause problems but I would think the art cleanbox should of fixed that.

Just to make sure, hook your center up to the other channel and see if it still happens. Also make sure you double check your dip switches to see if they are in the correct position.

Okay I adjusted the gain like you said to around 10 on the ep2500 my avs trim is about 75% now there is no hiss the spl is good and the hum is only audible if you get approx 5-6 inches from the speaker. I am happy with this.

Will this hum hurt the speaker?

Both channels are the same.
my dip sitches are all to the left besides number 3 and 8 they are to the right. (low cut filters turned off)

Does this sound correct?

Yup, You got them correct. Sounds like you just needed a little more tweeking.
