Have an opportunity to buy these about 1/2 price lightly used. Trying to arrange a listen, but in the meantime, anyone have opinions? I like very neutral sounding speakers and listen primarily to Jazz (and some classical and pop).

Would you go for these lightly used for $1200 (MSRP is $2500) or, say, Monitor Audio S6 or S8s or Axiom 60s or 80s new, which are all around same price give or take? I know a lot of this is personal and I need to listen to all of them, but still curious about your opinions and whether folks think there is just a lot more speaker there in the Energies. I should mention that I don't particularly like listening to music with a sub (although will have one mostly for HT use), so mains that get pretty low on their own and handle the bottom well are an important characteristic to me. Plus, these will be going in a pretty large room with high ceilings.

Thanks!

Joshr,

In my opinion, Energy Veritas speakers are some of the best speakers around. Nothing short of excellent. If the speakers are truely lightly used then, $1200 is a good price.

The 2.3i's would go pretty low on their own, down to 35hz or close to that I think. You'll be fine for music, HT maybe not. But since you already have a sub.....no problems there.

The best thing to do however, is to go listen to the Veritas and a few other speakers within your budget, that way you will know you're making the right decision. To really make the Veritas shine, make sure you have good components as they are pretty revealing speakers in my opinion (but in a good way :)).

I actually have the 2.2i in a fairly big room also. 20X25 with 20 foot ceilings and they have no problems pressurizing that room with sound.

If you have any other questions, don't be afraid to ask. There are a lot of people on this site with a lot good advice and experience.

Good luck

Thanks, Hootie, any recommendations on components--receiver in particular--for these speakers?

Also, do you have the Veritas center and rears as well? If so, you like?

Interesting to hear that those bookshelves do the job in your 8000 cu. ft. room...makes me think, cause I hate towers in my LR.

Josh,

I am using the 2.2i's as a stereo setup w/sub. I don't have the Veritas center channel or the surrounds. I did hear a whole setup with the 2.4i's, center channel and surround speakers briefly at a local hifi shop and it was impressive. They were using Rotel pre/pro I beleive.

As far as suggesting receivers it would be helpful to know about how much you want to spend. Right now my 2.2i's are powered by a DK Design Amp and I've been pretty happy so far. Do you have a receiver now?

The 2.2i's have about the same footprint as the towers. I wouldn't even consider them a bookshelf really. Since you have a good opportunity to get the 2.3i's, I'd opt for those instead of the 2.2i's. Unless you really really like a stand-mounted speaker.

Another thing I forgot to mention. If your room is big as you say it is. It would be better to integrate a subwoofer to your setup. The 2.3's would sound great as is, but its just so much better when you have a good subwoofer to fill in the "blanks". :)

Veritas 2.4i

HI Josh

Did you end up buying the 2.3's?

I am in the market for 2.4i's

Have heard nothing but good things about the 2.4s

Its hard to read the reviews as they often throw in "Better or best than at this price level and outclass even more pricey speakers"

For a neo-phyte. Its hard to decide.

Also, if anyone can help me out. Impedance nominal at 8 ohms etc. .can you really go by these specs? Isn't lower impendance better (rbh's floorstanding are 4 ohms nominal)
