Energy Veritas 2.4i problem

Hi guys:

I have nad t 973 7 channel amp driving my veritas. The nad is biamped so channels 7 and 6 drive the right main and channels 1 and 2 drive the left. For the right main, channel 7 drives the low end and channel six the high.

Yesterday, I was listening to a disk at moderate volume (-8) and channel 7 went into protect mode about 1 minute into the first song. I have tried switching speaker cables and changing the amplification channel and I keep getting the same result, the channel that is driving the bottom end of the right main is going in to protect mode and I llose all the low end sound.

I don't beat my system and all the components are about one year old, give or take a few months. However, I am concerned my wife may be he cause. She had a pool party while I was at work and had the pre turned up to 8 and the max is 12. Any help is appreciated and thanks for taking the time to reply.

Regards,

Dane

Did you try driving your right speaker with different channels of your T973, one channel at a time. If they all go into protection mode then try doing the same with the left speaker. That should help you narrow down the origin of the problem, i.e. the amp or the speakers.

Yes, I connected the right main low end to channel 1 and also tried channel 5 and each time that channel went into protection mode.

If I get that right, channel 1 amp works okay with your left speakers but went into protection mode when it is connected to the right speakers. You didn't mention at what volume but sound like at any volume. So that sounds like there is a short in the right channel speaker. Assuming the shorting links are removed, the speaker wires are fine, and you connected everything correctly, then it is likely that the woofers/XO in your right speaker have been damaged.

You've got it right although it doesn't go into protection until the volume is increased to -10 and above. Are the Xovers expensive to repair or replace? Thanks.

It should be free except may be the shipping costs, if you have a valid warranty. If not, I don't know how much it would cost but if you call Energy (http://www.energy-speakers.com/v2/customer/service.php) they will give you an estimate.

It could be one of the 3 woofers but I think you may be right about the XO. I would think that a woofer normally fails open, not shorted. The fact that the T973 went into protection mode indicates the fault is a short, not open. I have had my 2.3i (only 2 woofers) driven to the +X dB range without any problem, but my power amps would naturally clip at a much higher level than a receiver would.
