I figured on winisd and a website the tuning of my box. But a guy at JL audio said my calculations were wrong.... I have a box thats 2ft3 and have a 4" aeroport that is 17" long. This makes for a 29hz tuning right? The guy at JL audio said that its tuned at 20hz  I hope hes wrong or im tuned way too low cuz i already have the aeroport glued at 17"!

Overall your enclosure is too small. A 12W7 works best in at least 4ft^3 or more with 40-45+ in^2 of vent area.

Will it work and make sound (beside a load of port noise) sure, but it is like putting 14" wheels and no name all season tires on a brand new Ferrari. No way you will ever get to experience what it is capable of.

I disagree annunaki I just hooked one of my 12w7's up to my ht and there is no chuffing at all! The jl manual calls for a 1.75ft3 box tuned at 32hz so I think a 2ft3 box tuned at 29 should be fine! It sounds great right now with wrath of the titans!

Sure it does. but that doesnt mean it cant do better. have you tried to put the numbers into winisd and seen the plots.

Just because jl says use 1.75 cuft box, doesnt mean thats the best possible. They might have reservations suggesting much larger boxes because lot of people then wont buy it. with your config, there's a bump in the response at the lower end, add room gain to that.

whats the deal with starting so many threads, could you please limit all your questions to a single thread, you will still get responses without cluttering the forum.

You need to remember that the recommended enclosure from JL is for car use, not in your home. In car response can add as much as +20db because of the confined space at lower octaves. A home depending upon room size is half that or less.

annunaki can you explain to me how a larger box would work better for home theater rather than in a car? I don't understand honestly....

a smaller box will roll off sooner. at lower frequencies, the room will add gain to the lower frequencies. Smaller the room, more the room gain and it will start earlier. e.g. in a large room, gain might start at 30hz. in a car, it will start at 60-70hz. it will compensate for the rolloff
