Emptiness in the speakers

I agree, I may be losing midbass, on these tiny's. However, I spent an hr yesterday with the YPAO to get the sub setup right and it set the distances at F/R 11.0ft, Centr 12.0ft and Sub 13.5ft.

It was U2 live yesterday on PLDHD on tv, the system gave me good bass but sounded like I was losing some vocals although loud enough , but not like watching it on DVD. The signal was HD though. I wonder if the concert had good recording. I am going to retry today.

I have my connections clean but wonder if I need to reconnect the coppers into the receiver pinch screw knobs again. I doubt if speaker craftsmanship has any flaws.

Any suggestions on tweaking the treble/bass, now set to +4.0 and +0db.
Check out monoprice.com. You can get some screw on banana plugs that will make a nice snug connection. Those are what I use. You can also tin the wires to make them slide easier. Makes life eaiser for me.

Perhaps tweaking the bass might help with the setup. Just be careful you could blow those speakers pretty easily I suspect.

Also corner load the sub to see if that helps.

My bad(typo) it is Cross over is set to 160hz now. I did the YPAO last evening..it did improve the bass on my sub. However, I think I need to increase the center channel a little bit. American Idol sounded great but ryan s' voice was the loudest while others were a bit low. May be it was the HD broadcast.

Do I need to lower the cross over? Speakers are rated 150hz~above.

Lsiberian, I don't need big speakers. These are the high end micros from Energy. They sell for $1000 not $250 like the ones in Costco.
The Reference Connoisseur series..not a garage assembled out of the box HT. These have a better rep than Bose do. I bought these since I dont have room in my room!
I also have the 5.1 Energy monster towers HT, with a 480W sub wired with Monster 12 gauge, components running on fiber optics, running off a $1100 Denon. Can blow some socks off the neighbors!
In our forums Monster and Bose are almost cuss words.

Monster is a bully that suits anyone that uses the word Monster in their name for trademark infringement. They also make up stuff about cables. And use plastic in the middle of their cables to cut cost.

Bose makes LQ speakers. Then markets and sells them as hifi.

So you are right Energy is much better than Bose. ;)

Just for the sake of checking, could you verify that all the speakers have the correct polarity? + to + and - to -. It sounds dumb, but I've done that before. Connections themselves are not likely to cause what you describe.

If you set the speakers to large (and don't crank it up), do they sound significantly better or do they still sound hollow? If they still sound hollow when set to large, then it is the speakers not the setup.

J Garcia,
Yes I did check polarities. I have non-polar speaker wires, however I am thinking of switching + and - on the speakers and receiver all around and see if it makes a difference. I just used the logo imprinted side of the wire into the red(+)terminal on both Yamaha and the speakers.

Btw, how would these blown up sound, typical cracked noise or else. I dont see any signs of that. I may have had 45 hrs of break in now, if that does any good according to Energy. Impedance is 8ohm compat.
A big factor could be that distance between my fronts is only 3 ft. I wonder if there is frequency cancellation going on here that make it sound less than what they are. I have placed them on the TV again no room in my room!

Are they hooked direclty to the sub or to the receiver? Sounds like the receiver. Is that what Energy recommends? Did they recommend a x-over also? 3ft between the fronts could be a problem yes; they will sound like one speaker. If they were blown, you would know because you would either get no sound from one or both of the drivers or you would get crackling like you said.
