I currently have a Denon Avr-791 that is rated at 90w x 7 at 8 ohms and I wanted to add two tower speakers to my 5.1 Energy Take Classics for the FL and FR as well as replacing my current center channel speaker. I was looking at the EMP E5Ti and E55Ti for the towers and I wanted an opinion as to which one would fit my receiver better. I am afraid that my receiver doesn't really have enough power to drive the E55Ti. As for the center channel I will be replacing I was thinking of the E5Ci. I was hoping to spend under $1000 dollars for both towers and the center channel so please give any other suggestions as well. Thanks :).

Your receiver looks decent enough to power either one, it appears to be stable at 6ohms, which both of the EMP speakers are. If I'm reading correctly and you have pre-outs then I would say go for it, I'm sure you'll be happy with the sound, and if you feel the need to upgrade I would suggest adding a nice amp from the likes of Emotiva. I have the E5Ti's and the E5Ci, very happy with them, but the improvements in the E55Ti's I believe are worth it. For other suggestions of course I'll suggest you review the recent facebook in the under 1K range: http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/floorstanding/2010-1k-faceoff.

Have fun!

Both the E5ti and E55tis are some of the easiest loudspeaker loads to drive. The impedance in bass frequencies is above 8 ohms which makes even modest power receivers have no issues driving the speakers. I do recommend using a powered sub for both music and movies to compliment the bass extension. They don't have as much deep bass as their physical appearance (E55s) would suggest, but they do play extremely loud and clean without bottoming out.
