EMP E5Ci center channel speaker

Hi,

I'm definitely pretty set on getting the EMP E5ti tower speakers, and was thinking of going with the E5Ci for my center (since from what I've read it's best to stick to the same brand/product line for fronts and center). However, someone brought up the E5Ci being the weak link in the Impression series. Can anyone else comment? Should I still stick with that as my center, or is this a good time to mix in a different one?

Thanks!

I think it was probably me that commented on the poor performance of the E5Ci. My issue was that the cabinet resonance was transferring to my TV stand and creating perceived distortion. This made the center sound terrible at reference volumes but fine at moderate ones. This should not be happening if the cabinet was designed properly I wouldn't think as the very small foam feet supplied with the speaker are inadequate to dampen the speaker and isolate it from the TV stand.

I remedied this by placing the speaker on a couple of large high density foam inserts that came with the packaging of another pair of speakers I have. I can take some pictures when I get home and post them.

In conclusion I am now very happy with the center and it performs flawlessly. Its a little more revealing than I would like as poorly mixed TV shows (Castle for instance) the dialoge can sound muddy and improperly weighted and unnatural. But for anything that has a half way decent quality recording it is awesome and I couldn't be happier with it.

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck with your decision!

P.S. Also depending on where you live I would be open to have you over to audition them.

Ok cool I see what you're saying. Glad to hear from someone who has the center. I don't think I would get that problem because mine will actually be located on top of my stone fireplace mantel.

I'm located around Pittsburgh, not sure how far away that is from you.

Also, great choice on the tv! I have that exact same model and love it. I still think it has one of the nicest pictures out of anything out there right now. Of couse I'm biased but it's definitely a quality choice. Now for the quality sound!

Thanks...I'm enjoying it but often times I wish I would have purchased a plasma....the only reason I went LCD is that I used to have a HTPC as the main source and I used to game a lot on it.

Yeah Unless you live in Pittsburgh WI then an audition isn't going to work. :)

My only complaint is that I didn't go bigger. I could kick myself for not getting the 52" (or bigger); my living room is 13x20, and the tv is on the wall as the main focus point making the room longer, so we sit back quite a bit for where we placed our sectional. When I selected the tv, 46 looked huge, but once I put it up on the wall not so much... Oh well, it "does the job" for now haha.

That's why I'm hoping I get this audio stuff right from the start; make sure I'm not wanting more right after I get it.

Yeah I'd say I'm a bit too far to check it out... oh well

What sub are you planning on getting? Its probably the single most important piece of a HT for me.

Actually I was going to hold off for a while. Doing this initial purchase of AVR, fronts, center, and surround was going to be enough for now. I was planning on then trying to figure out what kind of sub I want, and yeah that will be really important for me too actually. I don't just want any run of the mill sub, I want something that I will be able to feel, something that will rumble my house during movies, but will still sound clear for music. Hmm what do you think that equates to? What all should I look out for, size and power wise? Do you like your polk sub that's in your signature?

I love my Polk sub....for me office. I had the office rocking pretty good today when I cranked up the new Tiesto CD. :)

And I love my HSU for music and movies. I was listening to Grieg in Bluray last night and this sub is incredibly articulate and composed. And at the same time it can shake my house for movies......good luck with your subwoofer hunting....there are about 5-6 different selections that would be excellent. Very hard to choose when it comes to the sub. Took me several months.
