Man, just when you think you have it all!

http://www.emptek.com/e55ti.php

With the extra woofer, looks like the tweeter would be bumped up a little higher to ear level. Obviously, they'll probably have similar performance to the original E5ti's... I've never seen a company do this though, anyone else? Wonder why the change...

Its called a D'Appolito driver alingment MTM vertical arrangement on top with 3 bass drivers below. Atlantic Tech and many others have been doing this for years. I just found out about this model today as well which looks like it will be their flagship product, NOT a replacement to their existing E5ti tower.

Cool stuff I think....

Wow gene, Supreme Overlord? A little gothic for you isn't it? :)

Every time I hear overlord I think of Starcraft.

I see, thanks!

I'm still very happy with my E5ti's, so no regrets. Looks like a very cool design though.

Are you serious??????? I love my E5Tis and it will be awesome to own those. I guess you can't keep up. Just when you think you have reach eutopia, technology brings you back to reality.

I also have not regrets, but it will be sweet to own a pair of these.

Funny story! I told the wife about the new model and ........ I heard nothing but crikets. Then I heard........ I though you said...... your new speakers are the bomb!

I guess no upgrade any time soon. Except for the Emotiva I am thinking about!

Sounds like its time to move the E5Ti's to the back channels :D

Is there any real advantage to having full size towers as back channels (other than a reason to upgrade to larger/better towers)? Since surround sound it pretty much ambient noise, do you really gain anything?

I don't think that's an accurate description of rear channel sound. There's of course the issue of M-CH music, but it's also the fighterplane coming from behind you, or Kevin Bacon from "Hollow Man" moving around the room, etc.

It's usucally less signifigant, but I see no reason to imagine that the back channels will not include the full audio frequency and volume range: so "for whatever reason you put towers in the front"

Those are beautiful...I wonder if I can convince EMP Tek to provide some trade-in credit towards those...

Unless you can get far enough away from the back channels, I wouldn't recommend using towers else they will be highly localizable. If you do mostly multi channel music listening, I suppose that could be a positive, but for movie watching its usually annoying. The back and side channels should offer more of a diffuse soundfield which is hard to achieve using tower speakers.

If you're happy with the sound of your speakers now, leave it as is and perhaps purchase an additional sub to get better bass response for all of your seats.

Otherwise, sell your towers on our classifieds and upgrade when the new EMPs start shipping.

I have the E5Ti's and I wonder if there would be any noticeable sonic improvement with the new E55Ti towers. If so maybe I'll see if I can't pick these up. My E5Ti's are already fantastic so it would have to be quite a noticeable gain in quality for me to drop another $500-$1000 on these towers.

I called today about the E55Ti and the guy said that they don't have a release date but they will probably come out around the end of February or the beginning of March. He also said the guy that does the website is out of the county so they will probably update their website in a week or two when he comes back.

I change my mind very fast so I hope these speakers come out before I find a different pair of speakers I like and buy them

If I were you and had the $500 to spend.....

I would certainly get an external 2 channel power amp to run your current towers. Unless you are in an enormous room I wouldn't think the addition of a few drivers would make any difference, while the addition of a nice beefy power amp might make a large one as these are power hungry speakers from what I have noticed.

Exactly. Thats what I would spring for if I had the extra $$. I have a Crown pro amp at my dads house that I will have to grab when I go up there next to try with the EMP's. If that does work out I will be getting a power amp eventually.

Hopefully these come out soon. I emailed them and got the same end of Feb early March response. Anyone notice that the $500 price is now gone from the website?

I was hoping they would come out at some crazy intro price. $500 is my budget for fronts. :-D

I just found out about these speakers, I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what they say about price.
I tried to find the $500 price in google cache, but didn't see it. Though I did find in Nov 2009 the E5Ti were listed as
MSRP $730.00 PAIR
INTRODUCTORY PRICE
$400.00 PAIR

so hopefully they won't be that much more

Same, I want to buy some now, only have computer speakers currently
