The Emotiva speakers that are currently available were reviewed here awhile ago. They recieved pretty high marks. I'm in the middle of re-doing some of the basement and am setting up a HT room and I am considering these speakers. I am curious if anyone here has purchased these speakers and what their impressions are. They are on sale right now including free shipping... Any input on these would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bandit.

I have them and like them alot. I can't say how well they compair with other speakers in their price range. But they seemed to rank a little better in the audioholics reviews.

They aren't the prettiest speakers, not ugly, just simple. If you want something unasuming that blends in, they are great.
They redesigned the grills since origionally shipping them. Heres a pic of the new grills. http://img118.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1113ii7.jpg

What reciever or amp do you have? They are 4 ohm speakers, so you need a semi hefty amp for them. (Their made by an amp company... I would be worried if emotiva made an 8ohm high sensitivity speaker.;))

I have an older Sony ES series reciever. I believe it is a 555. There is a 4 ohm switch on the back... but I'm concerned that will turn the power supply rails down and overly (if thats a word) limit the power available. The reciever is getting old, but it still works perfectly and can play very loudly without distortion... I don't think that I'll be replacing both at the same time.

Chances are if it does have the ability to play 4 ohm loads, it can handle the ER series fine in the standard mode you're using. If it did have any issues, it would likely trip the internal protection mode circuit and automatically shut off before any long-term damage could be done.

I can't comment on the ERM-1s, however I have the ERD-1 surrounds in my main HT setup and they are extremely impressive. I've had the Axiom QS-8s and Boston Acoustics VRX surrounds, both in their own right good surrounds and for the money, these are wicked performers.

I had favored the QS-8s for a while, however having owned the ERDs for some time now and having had the opportunity to play them will all types of sources, I feel these are equal or even better than the Axioms for music as well as movies. I've yet to hear any sort of compression or distortion, even at extremely high volumes.

If you did have issues with the load and felt you couldn't keep them, Emotiva does have a 30 day money back return policy, so you'd only be out return shipping, which would be relatively minimal.

I don't think anyone out there can beat the ERDs for value, and that's at their original price of $350. For their current going price of $249, they are even better... -TD
