Emotiva MPS-1 Amplifier Review

Gene - Have you had chance to listen to the H/K 435/635 receivers? If so, any thoughts on whether they are as good/quiet pre-pro as the Yammy 2500? Also, do you know if the pre-pro sections of the RXV-2500 and 1500 are identical or is the 2500 better?

Thanks. It's always a pleasure to read your honest, informative, and technically accurate reviews.

Harmon;

I haven't messed with the preamp outs of any Harman receiver in quite some time, but I believe Ray has some experience there and perhaps he can shed some light.

I believe the preamp circuitry of the RX-V1500/2500 are virtually identical so they should have an equally quite preamp section.

Gene, I think i asked you this on another thread one time but never got a response. I was curious at the lack of reviews/mention of pioneer's elite line. Have you not had the chance to review them? Any thoughts? Thanks

Pioneer has been a tough nut to crack, but we finally managed to get review samples of their normal product line (particularly a budget HT receiver and HTIB). Hopefully this will lead to their elite line in the future.

OK, thanks. Is Ray one of the Audioholics staff, and how do I get his attention? Would also like to see you guys review a Pioneer Elite (or 1015) AVR and one of the H/K receivers if you get a chance.

Hi
The Yamaha RVX2500 has some of the quietest pre-outs on any receiver regardless of cost They are as good as many dedicated Preamps. It has been my experience that most all receivers including the HK’s have very poor analog pre-outs and that they are usually incorporated into their receivers as an afterthought The RXV2500 and the RVX1500
Make very fine stand-alone pre-amps think of the amps inside as an extra bonus
Hope this helps

Out of curiosity, would that be true also of flagship receivers such as the HK 7300? Or is that statement more relevant to the $1,000 and below receivers? Thanks.

Hello
cant comment on the 7300 because I have not installed it as a Pre/Pro
I can tell you that the rxv-2500 is better than the HK7200 when used as a dedicated pre-amp

I would like to share my personal experience with using a Yamaha Reciever as a preamp.
They are incredible, they blew me away!
I'm not downing the other manufacturers, just trying to share the fact that the Yammies are incredibly reasonably priced and the performance is phenominal!!
By no means do I in any way have any financial gain etc.. for saying so.
Yamaha makes some far out gear. ;)

Agreed on the preamp ability of Yamaha when paired with a separate amp, Hard to beat for movies, Music on the other hand I did find fatiguing with the Yamaha and slightly off. Do you guys ever review Marantz gear? I am thinking about the sr8500/9600.

Based on your experience, does "most" include the Denon AVR-3805?

I am using the Denon as a pre for 2 ch music in my HT system. In terms of noise, it is silence but in terms of sound quality I am not sure if I am getting the best out of my speakers. I am tempted to compare it with my old Adcom GFP565 but there are a lot of work to move things around as the Adcom is still hooked up in the other room.
