Emotiva LPA/LMC package

Hi guys,

As you can see with my gears, the problem I'm encountering is the bass management - it is fixed at 90:(. Which I think doesn't caliberate with my speakers).

So I'm leaning towards Emotiva LPA/LMC package. I have some questions regarding this system:

1. Is it possible for me to set the cross over points: 50 mains, 70 or 80 centre and 90 or 100 rears.

2. Since it is separates: do I have to adjust the LFE level, if so, can LMC handle this.

3. I don't listen to 2 channel, I use PL11 Music for audio CD. DVD in DTS. These are the only use in my system. I don't have any other set-ups.....primitive indeed:eek:

Does LMC has bugs in these settings. Because these are very basic set-ups, if there are any bugs, I will be really disappointed.

4. I'm not a loud listner, my system is almost 6 years now, never reached to, at least half of the loudness. So is the Emotiva package worth the investment when considering my habits & constraints of my current system.

My mains specs: 4-8 Ohms, sensitivity 90, range 35-20
Centre: 4-8 Ohms, sensitivity 90, range 60-20
Rears: not sure

Thanks guys.

I think it would be best to contact Emotiva about these questions. They built them, so they would know better than anyone else.

1. Yes. It allows you to set the crossover from 60 up to over 150 (don't remember where it finally cuts off) in increments of 10.

2. The LMC does allow to adjust the LFE +10 and -10. It allows the same for the all the 5.1 speakers. The back speakers for 7.1 share a setting, but I doubt you'd have different speakers for left and right.

3. The LMC does have PL2, NEO, and even some DSP modes. It does handle signals in a funny way. Not really a bug and possible to fix using remote macros. What it does is use the same setting for a particular signal. For example, I have DirecTV and most of channels come through as PCM and I have it set for NEO cinema 3. Now, if I change to CD mode and put a CD in, it will read a PCM signal and use that same mode. The way I got around this is by having the remote macro send the LMC a signal to switch to Bypass. I tried having it switch to PL2 automatically, but it remembers the last PL2 mode it was in so you can't use a remote macro to correct it in this case. The only other thing to be aware of is the LMC has a slight hiss to it which is only noticeable when you right up against the speaker.

4. The combo has handled every speaker I've thrown at it including Magnepans which are very hungry speakers. The amp will be a great piece of equipment for years to come.

Despite the minor flaws to the LMC-1, I decided to stick with it because of its simple setup and the sound out of it is great. You also get 40% off future prcoessors so I'll be in line when the LMC-2 comes out. The LPA-1 is a true bargain. Some people use the LPA-1 and a receiver as a pre which works out well.

Don't you just love Mordaunt-Short speakers? :)

Thanks rna, because of my limited use of different sources (95% music), I should be ok. Maybe my wife would not bother to set the right processor settings...:D anyway she watches those foriegn/festival movies with sub-titles.

Now hiss is a different story, because I already have a hmm & hiss noise coming out of speakers, I think it is a ground-loop issue. Tried all sort of manuvering to overcome this but to avail.

Thanks for putting it out this issue by the way, just worried whether LMC is going to amplify this issue.

Yeah, Mordaunts are great, I'm so pissed that Yammy crosses at 90, which is a dis-service to them...don't you agree.

Don't you think crossing over @ 60 is bit too high. Mind you 908 goes down to 35 (realisticaly I think it should be able to handle upto 50).

Since you are familiar with MS, given my gear, what cross over points would you select?

You should be choosing your X-Over by running room sweeps and calculating a graph showing where your peaks and nulls are in your particular room.

Do this for each of the different X-Over's avail, and use the best setting by which graph shows the smoothest response....

For instance, In my room, (Studio 100's and SVS subs) if I cross over at 60hz, because my speakers are more then capable down that low.... I get a large null in the FR in that area crossing over from my subs to my mains....

If I change that setting to 80hz that null is gone, and Im flat across the entire spectrum...

You should have a Radio Shack SPL meter and some test tones and plot the FR on graph paper...

Personally I let the Sub do the Low end work, to relieve my mains of that burden where they are not as proficient as the subs... 60hz to 80hz is not something your will notice all that much, so let the subs handle it.... but in the end let the graph make the decision for you.

Hope that helps...
