Emotiva LMC-2 and Magnepan speakers

Hi,

I'm a newbie and am looking to set up my HT. It seems like the emotiva receivers have gotten great reviews and come at a great price. I was wondering if the new LMC-2's would be able to power Magnepan MG 12's? I know Maggies are very power hungry so not sure if I need to go the pre-pro route?

Would welcome other receiver recommendations, too.

I also plan on listening to music through my ipod and PS3. Will the quality be comparable to listening from a high quality CD player?

The LMC-2. Or as it has now been renamed, the UMC-2, is pre-processor. It does not power anything.
You'll need a power amp to go with it. Emotiva does make very nice amplifiers as well. But what you are looking at is not a receiver.

Exactly what Nomo said. I would add, I wouldn't use a receiver to power Magnepans. They're hungry speakers. Check out the XPA series from Emotiva to go with the LMC-2/UMC-1.
