Emotiva isn't good becoz it's not in a mag, it's not in a mag becoz it isn't good...

Any other reason for skepticism besides them not being in a mag?

John, it's only been an hour and a half, so there are a lot of members who haven't even seen this thread. Also, if you are argumentative or condescending, then others will probably respond in kind.

Some people here are really happy with Emotiva. Some aren't. I liked audion3wb post that you can go to forums and read about the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of companies. Magazines aren't the only places to find info. If you think that this forum is entirely composed of Emotiva fanboys, then do some searching and you'll see that it isn't.

I'm gonna stop this right now.

The fanboy drivel is driving me insane. I ask a question and you turn it into me wanting to see an Emotiva ad in a magazine.

NONE of you having giving me a real answer as to why Emotiva is that good! It's all been shots at whatever answer I've returned and that's it.

Maybe its all of you who should get your heads out of the sand and think about the question I posed.

Dissing someone is easy...standing up with fact and reason is quite another story.

Like I said earlier...show me..., but you haven't.
i do not own one of their Products but have heard and seen a few. Good build quality. Maybe Gene will chime in on the same. They also are oem for a couple of the beloved oems, fwiw.

My mind is NOT made up at all. I think I asked a legitimate question, but no one has been able to answer it for me.

Feeling a little sarcastic are we? I don't really care either way. All I know is this, I still don't have an answer.

Well a lot of people offered reasons. Typically if someone gives you an answer and your response is to repeat the question that would to some degree mean that you are discounting what they said.

Besides, you are refuting every answer that is being given. I have looked at the thread and saw at least 3 posts with viable answers. If you choose not to respect peoples opinions, why ask for it?

Leaving the magazine buisness aside, in my opinion I think they are a great amp for a great price. If you want more opinions just do some digging on this forum and you will get a lot of opinions, even a negative one or two I'm sure.

I agree if Absolute Sound hasn't reviewed a product, then it can't be that good.

Quite frankly we simply don't have orgasms over audio products like some of the esoteric mags tend to no matter how good the products are

And I'll bet you've never perused their pages on a product you may at one time have been interested in? Please!
No, I have not, and would never give any weight what ever to their opinion regarding any equipment.

It is magazines like absolute sound that have nigh on ruined the hobby of audio. They have encouraged a cult based on superstition, which has erected huge barriers to progress. They have persuaded the gullible and ignorant to focus on the irrelevant and inconsequential. This has diverted attention and focus away from real problems to the lasting detriment of real product improvement.

Their reviews are meaningless subjective drivel. They could not pick a good product from a bad one.

Magazines like that, fill their pages with drivel about the the great sound of single ended triode tube amps. The best of those amps can manage about 3 watts, and any square wave passed through the amp looks like a sine wave.

Any audio magazine that can not make decent objective measurements of an item under review, is the audio press equivalent of "The National enquirer".

Honestly, if I were a manufacturer, I would hope that none of my equipment ever got noticed by magazines like that.

I do not own an Emotiva amp and never have. All I know about them is by reputation here, and from my visit with the principals of Emotiva at the Audioholics SOTU event. You can read my impressions here.

Obviously I have not had an opportunity to have one of their products on my test bench, so I can not claim my review is based on data I was able to measure.

OK, I believe the OP want's some measured results, so here goes:

Emotiva XPA-1 Monoblock Power Amplifier

THD spectrum of a 1 kHz sine wave at 20V p-p output amplitude.

Emotiva XPA-1 THD spectrum of a 10 kHz sine wave at 20V p-p output amplitude.

Intermodulation products were over 60 dB down from the fundamental tones at 1 kHz and 500 Hz, which is very good performance. Here is the Emotiva XPA-1 intermodulation spectrum of a 500 Hz and 1 kHz sine wave each at 20V p-p output amplitude.

Frequency response was flat as a board from 20 Hz to 48 kHz, the limit of the SpectraPlus software. The slight linear rise towards higher frequency is the response of the sound card input, not the amplifier itself. The same slope is present running the UA-101 output directly into the input. Shown below is the Emotiva XPA-1 frequency response at -30 dBV RMS level into an 8 Ohm load.

These results are pretty darn good for the money, IMO :D

Then unlock the limit and see where it goes!

My thread wasn't about seeing this that good company (yes, sarcasm) displayed in a magazine. I was only questioning why the that good company wasn't mentioned in any other publication. I used The Absolute Sound only as a reference.

And guesss what happened? I got dumped on by every single poster . My post got twisted and (now) ridiculed (by way of post topic change).

And when I say every single poster I mean every single poster. That's an uncomfortable feeling and certainly not a welcoming one for a new member who tries to inject thought!

"THD at 1.535V RMS input voltage (maximum rated output power level) stays at around 0.003% until about 1 kHz, and then rises gently to about 0.02% at 20 kHz. At 0.1V input voltage level (about 5V output voltage), THD is flat as a pancake at around 0.002% over the full frequency range. Results were slightly worse (a bit less than a factor of 2) into 4 Ohms (not shown). Here is the THD+N vs. Frequency graph for the Emotiva XPA-1 at 500W output power into an 8 Ohm load. (Measurement provided by Emotiva.)

THD+N vs. Frequency for the Emotiva XPA-1 at 5W output power into an 8 Ohm load. (Measurement provided by Emotiva.)

Power output into 8 Ohms and 4 Ohms is incredibly impressive. At the rated powers of 500W and 1000W, the THD levels are a very low 0.003% and 0.05%. At the 1% THD spec for output power, the XPA-1 puts out 680W into 8 ohms (37% higher than spec) and 1100W into 4 Ohms (10% over spec). Below is the THD+N vs. output power level for the Emotiva XPA-1 into an 8 Ohm load. (Measurement provided by Emotiva)

“THD+N vs. Output Power for the Emotiva XPA-1 into a 4 Ohm load. (Measurement provided by Emotiva.)

Overall, the bench results for the XPA-1 are excellent, and prove you are getting even more than advertised. Quite amazing, given the low cost of these amps!" - Courtesy of Hometheaterhifi.com

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Maybe my orignal TS was confusing to some, but all I wanted is some reasons as to why you think the Emotiva products should be considered.

i can't unlock the limit.

but i will break down the answer to your OP in a real simple way:

being mentioned in a magazine has ABSOLUTELY no relevance to how "good" a product is. period. enough said. that's it.

now, if you had specific questions on how another brand is better at a certain feature or capability, we'd all have something to talk about. basically, they're "good" (for quite a few people) because they can do the same things other brands mentioned in the magazines can for a lot less money.

but your OP can really be interpreted as the new thread title.
