Ive got an Integra DTC 9.8 pre-amp on the way and im looking for amps. Ive heard alot about them, but they cost about half of all the amps theyre being compared to. Does anyone know anything about them, are they real or are they pos?

Try using the search function. Emotiva amps are some of the best around.

I have their "entry level" LPA-1 amp driving my 4 ohm Onix Ref HT speakers with 2 channels powering a 5-room distributed audio system. The build quality is ecellent at over 60 lbs. and has no problems driving all my speakers.

Their new XPA-5 amp is also very popular due to the great price and performance (5x200 Watts, $800) They also have some higher end models with class-G monoblock designs.

There is plenty of user feedback and professional reviews on this site and you can also get plenty of feedback on the emotiva forum. You might consider a 30-day trial on the emotiva amp in question for comparision against Rotel, Parasound, Outlaw, or others at your local dealer.

I'd also check out Outlaw audio, they have a 7x125 watt amp I'm keeping an eye on. The comparable amp from Emotiva is 5x125 with 2x75 or something like that. Also, JR.com has an adcom 5x125 on sale right now.

I have the old Emotiva LPA-1 model. It is 6x125 @ 8 ohms or 5x125 + 2x75 watts. The new model, the LPA-2 will have 7 full power channels, but it will also cost more, about $650.

I am not having any problems driving my surround channels with the 50-75 watt channels. If you think about it, this is more power than they would get from a receiver with all channels driven. The LPA-1 is a lot of amp for $500.

I'm always confused why amp weight draws fawning compliments? I honestly don't understand. What does sheer mass have to do w/ sound quality? For example, I'm thinking of moving to separates, and am seriously looking at ICE-powered digital amps (by either D-Sonic or Wyred 4 Sound)--those amps weigh very little. Does that preclude them from consideration for high fidelity?

Weight is related to quality because a couple things. In most amplifiers bigger transformers = more weight. Bigger transformers means higher current capabilities.

Quality chassis are heavy.

Heatsinks are heavy.

Granted there are newer designs which use switching power supplies and more efficient amplification requiring smaller or no heatsinking and so on.

If you look at audio products as a whole, most times the better stuff is pretty heavy.

Class D is a whole other animal. In the AB world, mass generally matters. One reason I mentioned it was because a lot of racks won't accommodate Emotiva amps due to size and weight. Another reason was for good old fun, but I think you're taking my humor too serious.

I have the IPS and as previously stated its a beast. no probles and for the $ + customer service you can't go wrong. Call and discuss what you're trying to accomplish with Emotiva and they will spend all the time you want in order to make sure your satisfied.

Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I found their customer service to be very lacking. I am honestly very happy that others have found good success with them, but I want the OP to know that not everyone has had stellar luck with Emotiva.

+1 for Emotiva Amps

Just replaced my home audio system to Emotiva XPA 5 and MMC 1 processor running PSB synchrony (4 ohm) 5.1 speakers and the sound is aplenty. I think you will be pleased w/ the results. Emotiva has very competitive pricing.
