I have an IPS-1 and it's top quality, fit and finish are also great. They are built like tanks, and are very neutral sounding, and output lots of good clean power. They are very hard to beat for the money.

I did have a little trouble with mine but Emo was good with helping out and sending me the replacement part free of charge. All in all, I am very happy with it and it is a powerhouse to say the least. It weighs about 9 thousand pounds and looks very good.

Parasound is a very good alternative. More expensive, but the best sounding amp under 3000k in my opinion (you don't need the halo go with the classic line). Many of the alleged experts say the old emotiva amps lacked detail in the midrange regardless of speaker choice. From what I'm hearing the new line to be introduced in March has corrected the problem. I'm so over budget on my new system I'm stongly considering using the xpa5 for my surrounds. It's 1/3 the cost of the parasound. I scored used Macs for my fronts, but if I end up with an xpa5 I'll passive biamp it to the fronts and compare sound quality with my macs and post the results. I'm pulling for emotiva, I think big boys are way overpriced. I like the idea of direct sell, but I need convinced. If emotiva can deliver 80% of the sound quality at 1/10 the cost of a mac or krell you'd be insane not to check it out.

Emotiva Amp

I have had good results with the entry level Emotiva LPA-1 amp and will probably upgrade to one of their pre-pros.

Yeah, I have the MPS-2, and it is a great amp. The build quality is excellent. And, of course, it sounds great: Excellent Crosstalk, Low THD, Flat Frequency Response, and Low Output Impedance. Highly recommended.

The Emotiva Pre-pros and preamp on the other hand, might not have excellent crosstalk (channel separation), but the THD+N, frequency response, and output impedance are still excellent.

I hope what this man is saying about old Emotiva amps is not to be taken seriously, i read rave reviews of their amps many on this site. Someone please reassure me all this sources were credible

I'm not bashing them at all! I'm going to end up trying them for my surrounds. I've just read several reviews where the reviewer said the low frequency output is stellar, the highs are very good, but the mid bass could be more detailed. No amp is perfect each has its strenghts and weaknesses, i'll hold my judgement until I've listened myself.

What part makes no sense, I'd be more than happy to clarify. Amps sound different period end of story. Despite the fact the McIntosh's are overpriced, they use better quality components, hence better sound reproduction. If cash is not an issue what brand of amp would you own? I'd bet 99% of the population would take a Mac or Krell over the cheaper brands. If you look at price to performance then the cheaper brands become more attractive. If you can get 75% of the performance for 1/8 of the cost then by all means do it. Looking at performance without regards to price you go with the manufacture that doesn't cut corners to bring their product to the mass market.

I've listened my speakers on an outlaw amp and it sounded totally different. The imaging quality was close, but it certainly wasn't 100% of the Macs. It's the same principal the speaker manufactures use when they make their expensive flagship lines. Make an expensive spearker without regards to price, then use the learned principals to introduce a similar but cheaper mass market speaker. How do they get the cost down? Use similar but cheaper components.

I think it has been proven through A/B blinded comparisons (The Audio Critic) that all amps sound the same from 20 Hz - 20 kHz as long as the power out is adequate (no clipping), the output impedance is low, the frequency response is flat (20 Hz - 20 kHz +/-3dB), the THD is low (<1%), and crosstalk is adequate.

Well, if I were a millionaire, I would get a Mark Levinson system -- you know the $24,000 per amp thing? $24,000 for the Audio Processor, $24,000 for the Video Processor, and $24,000 per amp x 7.

It probably doesn't sound any better, but you can believe that it does sound a lot better if you like. That's okay. It's cool.
