Emotiva amp XPA-3

I am thinking about buying the emotiva XPA-3 and I was wondering if it is OK to use with my speakers (mains and center). I do not want to blow anything up.

AVR Yammy RXV-1700

AMP Specs:200 watts RMS x 3 into 8 ohms | 300 watts RMS x 3 into 4 ohms

Speakers
Mains: EMP E5Ti Recommended Power 50-150 Watts
Impedance 6 Ohms
Center EMP E5Ci Recommended Power 50-120 Watts
Impedance 6 Ohms

Should be fine. The thing about having more power is that you don't actually need to USE it ALL. You only use the amount you need to achieve the SPL you are after and beyond that it is just headroom.

I am kind of sorry that I didn't buy one of these last month when they were on sale, but I will just wait for the next one

Adding an external amp to an AVR is in many cases a very good move. With 6ohm speakers you will relieve the AVR of having to push the front sound stage - letting the rears get more power for these dynamic movies that are so prevalent these days.

Emotiva prices fool a lot of people but their amps are as good sounding as any on the market. The only question is how long their amps will live. I've had my UPA-7 for over a year with nary a hiccup.

if you don't mind me tacking on a question here about the same topic.

I have an onkyo 5007 and have always considered getting an emo amp. I only have a 5.2 setup running klipsch all the way around.
Fronts: KLF-30's (updated X-overs)
Center: KLF-C7 (updated X-over)
Surrounds: RS-52's
Subs: two Hsu Research VTF3-MK3's

I have considered the xpa 3 or even the two channel. Supposedly, my avr can drive all speakers at 145 watts since it has separate amps for each channel.

Just wondering if an amp would be as helpful to me as it is most of the time in most systems.

An amp like the XPA3 will definitley give more power than the Onkyo, but the whether or not it is going to help you is going to be determined by whether or not you are having issues with delivering enough power to your speakers right now. If not, then an amp isn't going to make a dramatic improvement.

Kind of in the same boat

I am also concidering picking up an Emotiva (UPA5 for me) and was wondering what improvements I will experience. My current configuration is a Yamaha RX-V659 using JBL Studio Ls all around (L830 Mains, L810s Surrounds, LC1 Center and an Outlaw LFM1c). The JBLs are rated @ 75w continous 300 Max. Effecency is rated @ 90db. Some reviews of the JBLs state that they are a bit power hungry although the specs don't seem to indicate that. It could be my imagination, but at lower volumes I seem to lose a little detail when listening to music.
