Hello all you AH peeps!!
Let me first introduce you to Emily Haines, if you havent heard of her. Se is sometimes in Broken Social Scene, and some other bands (which I cant recall right now.) Allthough her main band is Metric.
And my GOD is she
HOT
She went on a solo stint in 2005 and released Knives Don't Have Your Back.
It is quite different from anything from Metric or the other bands she is involved in, as of it employs mostly her sitting at a grand piano and just playing. Absolutely beautiful music though.
The tracks are
1. Our Hell
2. Doctor Blind
3. Crowd Surf Off A Cliff
4. Detective Daughter
5. The Lottery
6. The Maid Needs A Maid
7. Mostly Waving
8. Reading In Bed
9. Nothing & Nowhere
10. The Last Page
11. Winning
The first track is a very good opener, with beautiful vocals and nice gentle piano, all though I do not know exactly what the lyrics are trying to get at.
The second song is the released single from this album, which has an accompanied video along with it which you may have seen on MTV, or MuchMusic or whatever. This song encompasses strings, piano, drums and other stuff. Another awesome song.
The third track is one of my favorites. It has very gentle piano, along with Emily's smooth silk vocals. Very beautiful.
All right, I'm not going to go into any more detail about most of the songs except for Reading In Bed which is just beautiful in its own way, talking about society and how you can relax. I think. The other song is the last one, winning, which almost chockes me up its so hauntingly beautiful. It just has emily's soothing vocals and awesome gentle piano.
There is another reason I love this album so much.
DETAIL
There is SO much detail on this record it isn't even funny. If you turn it up you can hear Emily's feet on the pedals of the piano, her fingers across the keys , every note and extra nuances from her vocals. The detail on this album is just incredible. And this is coming from a guy who is listening to it in MP3 format, and on headphones and crappy speakers. I cant wait to test it out in the theater room.
All in all, it is very soothing, and relaxing, and ridiculously detailed. GET IT!!!!
Best respect,
Cygnus
