Elevated sub - yes or no?

I have a VeloDD 15 that has 4 small feet and sat on padded carpet. I had to build a shelf supported to the back wall to place a projector on. Everytime deep loud bass effects played the projected image would vibrate. I checked the screen and it was firmly attached to the wall. I screwed the feet of the projector to the shelf, that didn't work, I added several types of antivibration materials under the feet of the projector and that didn't work either. Finally out of frustration and reading about the use of sub platforms to isolate them I was deterred by some of the prices but figured let me just try some of the firm foam packing the sub was packed in on delivery. I placed 4, 3 inch square pieces of it under each foot on the carpet and no more projector image vibration. The sub seems to ears, not measurements, to have a cleaner, quicker bass response with the low frequency effects on action movies. I can't say that it's dramatic, but it was with respect to the projector image issue.

The same kinds of discussions happen with wires, freezing CDs, green ink on the edges of CDs, etc. If something really works, it should be possible to get some kind of evidence in favor of it, rather than just having people claim it works. I have read (on another audio site) about a guy who claimed not only to routinely hear the difference between wires, but to hear the difference between wires when ONLY THE INSULATION was different (so that the actual metal wire was identical), and EVEN WHEN IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF THE PIGMENT in the insulation (i.e., the color was different, but was otherwise identical material in composition and thickness). Of course, he had no evidence to show for this ability, and anyone can claim anything at all when no supporting evidence is required.
I can smoke what he's smoking? :p

Tell that to your hosts at Audioholics. ;) Auralex SubDude HD Video Review | Audioholics

Directly from this website.
This site is a direct result of what happened when a group of Engineers got frustrated with marketing gimmicks in the Audio Industry and took it upon themselves to pursue the truth and educate the masses.
[h=3]Things you WILL NOT see on this website:[/h]
  • Advertising from snake oil venders or companies who make products we don't respect. We turn away advertising from companies we don't agree with (a fact that stunned a recent AV magazine advertising rep into dumbfounded silence).
  • Cute little "press release" style reviews. If you've ever read a review and realized that it could have been written without ever taking the product out of the box you know what we mean (no custom photos, no real in-depth or comprehensive description of the product). Audioholics does reviews and our short write-up overview articles are called "first looks". Don't worry, you won't confuse the two. :)
I'll let you judge the "review".

Okay, I've had my fun. Back on track...some experiential information for the OP...

I have an elevated subwoofer in my bedroom setup. (Here come the Alex/Adam jokes.) I used to have the same system with the sub on the floor. I could detect no change in quality or quantity of subwoofer output. No measurements were taken to prove there was no change. :)D)

Also, I added two Auralex Grammas to my main HT setup, under two SVS PB12+'s. I can say that I also note no difference in output Q. What I most definitely do notice is a substantial reduction in room rattles. The items sitting on top of the subs no longer 'walk' across the top. Windows no longer rattle, etc. BTW, I have floating, laminate flooring. I think Auralex actually has some graphs indicating reduced subwoofer resonances in an "estimated", "typical" isolation setup vs. non-isolation.
