Effect of temperature/humidity changes on speakers?

Ok, my setup is in an upstairs bedroom. Since I'm in Toronto, the winters get quite cold. Despite the heating, the room gets really cold, and I wonder what effect this has on speakers. I spent a good deal of money buying Energy Reference speakers. Would I be best to get a de-humidifier or add a heater to compensate for the cold?

Bump. Did I ask a stupid question that everyone is avoiding this? I'm just wondering because I can't find any info on this at all.

Hey. Not a dumb question at all. I just didn't respond because I don't know the answer. :) I think that this question has come up before, but I don't remember what the response was.

I'd suggest contacting Energy and asking them. They should be able to tell you if/how those parameters affect their speakers.

It is not stupid, but it may take more than 4 hrs for responses. Give it time, maybe even days. After all, not even I am glued to this site 24/7.:D

How cold is cold? Why a dehumidifier? You have humidity issues? Is the humidity condensing on your speakers? If not, I don't see an issue but best to ask the maker and have some real numbers for them to think on.

Depending how extreme the conditions - don't forget to give your electronics a thought...

Also - something just came to mind.. car audio systems go through very extreme temperature changes as well as humidity. I haven't noticed a change in sound in any of the systems I have heard between winter and summer. I did however recommend to my teenage son that he take it easy on his subwoofer when it is below 0 degrees F until it has warmed up a bit...

Bandit.

Depending on the speaker cone design you might see some degradation over time. You will need to get cones that will be able to stand up to the humidity and temp changes and definitely need good speaker connections to reduce oxidation. You should read up on speaker cone material.
