Ebay hunting - AVR-3805ish receiver?

Hello all,

I am looking for a new receiver and would like to get a bargain, don't we all, on an older receiver. Having read some reviews of the Denon AVR-3805 receiver I really like it but the prices on ebay are just too high. I would like 7 channels, I don't need HDMI switching and am looking for a solid receiver with excellent sound quality that I can get used for a good price.

Can anyone recommend a receiver in this class that they think I can pick up on ebay for a good price? What were the competitors for the AVR-3805 when it was new?

Have you thought about refurbished units from Denon or others? They can be had for great prices and usually come with at least a 90 day warranty.
I know for Denon their is Dakmart and ecost.com. I got the
Denon AVR-2106 for $280 shipped from ecost.

The competition was the Marantz 8400, Yamaha 2500 (he Yamaha 5790 and 5890 were similar but didn't offer the same component inputs), the Onkyo 901, the Pioneer Elite 56TXi (an awesome unit), the Harman Kardon 645 and 7200 and 7300, and a few not as popular units such as the Boston Acoustics AVR7120.

I'd say if you can find any of those above for $400 - $500, you're doing well.
