Early '70s Bang & Olufsen Amp

I was recently given a Bang & Olufsen Beomaster 3000-2 amplifier by an uncle. I connected the unit to my existing speakers (pair of PMC TB2), and for a short while that worked fine.

However, the speaker output (or tape input) of the amp is now distorted, which I am beginning to suspect is due either to mismatching of the impedance between speaker and amp (speakers are 8 ohm & of modern design; amp is 4 ohm and from early '70s I think), or between sound source and input (I had professional computer soundcard going into tape input on amp). Amp is now with B&O for repair and service, and when I get it back I want to ensure I don't damage it again!

Does anyone have any advice on how this amp can be safely intergrated into a modern audio setup?

Thanks

Any 4 Ohm capable receiver/amp should have no problem driving nominal 8 Ohm speakers. I would actually suspect something just kicked the bucket of old age.

Thanks. A few other people have told me the same thing, and after looking into the amp spec a little deeper, I can see it supports 8 ohm and even 16 ohm speakers.
