Hello all.New to the forum.Looks like ther are some cinenova grande owners here.I have had mine for a couple weeks now.Bought it on the basis of reviews from mags and owners positive feedback.I am suprised when i crank up the volume in 2 channel to the high volumes i like at times to see the clip lights start coming on!I read how many people say more power than you could ever want,or i never saw my clip lights come on.I run def tech bp2000tl's that are 91sensitivity,8ohm,with there own sub amp!Come on!i do love the sound quality and punch it has don't get me wrong,in dvd audio and sacd playback with 5 channels goin it's down right scary loud with say, Lincoln Park's(Reanimation, dvd audio).Anyone else listen to there music loud with this amp and see there clip lights come on?very curious.thanks.

Something does not add up. The unit only has a 4 KVA transformer, which means its continuous power draw will be under 3 KW, likely 2.8 KW. Even then that would take a 20 amp.

So seven channels into 8 ohms would exceed that and 400 watt or heaven forbid 1000 watts into 2 ohm X 7 would require a cooker or oven outlet.

The manufacturer does not state how long the receiver can develop those sort of power, but my guess is not long. Home theater mag gave no meaningful information about the conditions of test.

My hunch is that the map only develops those sort of power for a brief instant.

If that amp can be powered from a 15 amp outlet, then the specs are misleading and that's putting it mildly.

drivers in the speakers are fine. The rotel rmb 1090 i just sold could crank out more volume than the cinenova in 2 channel but not with as much punch.I really regret selling that amp!goin to have to buy another one when i can.Amp is on a 20 amp circuit, but not it's own dedicated one,and just driving 2 channels would be getting enough power from the wall.

i Run a ATI 3000 Series amp, the insides of this amp are very similar to the earthquake. I run 2 channel all the time with no issues.

Non dedicated 20amp outlet - need to get a few dedicated installed soon.
I run only 2 channels very often and haven't had any clipping issues at reference levels.

How loud are you driving the speakers anyway? How far are you sitting to have to crank it up so much!

I have a Cinepro3k6 which requires 5800 watts under test conditions. I run it of a 15 amp breaker which is nothing (50 amp is what it would need). I can crank it up to +5 db with very light clipping which brings it to a little over 120db. Anything higher than that it will go into shutdown mode or trip the breaker. Now the otherone I have is 220 Volts which I am not using in my apartment actually runs a lot cooler and does seem to sound better, there is just someting about 220 Volts or maybe it's just in my head. Any amp will clip once you drive it over the limit.

I own an ATI AT3005 (requires 20 amp outlet) & AT3002 (15 amp outlet).

ATI makes amps for Earthquake Sound (both the 200WPC & 300WPC amps).

Just for testing (not for listening:D), I have cranked the volume WAY UP (via remote control from outside the room, of course). I could hear the music very loudly from OUTSIDE the house.

And the clip lights never ever turn on.

Something is wrong.

I'm jealous deftech guy!I bought the supercube reference and right after that i saw the trininty!Damn it!I don't know who makes for who.Earthquake says they do stuff for ati,and vice versa?Either way they are good amps.I got an spl meter today.Played with it for a bit. From my listening position on the 2 discs i played average spl is 112,and 114 with the dvd audio disc hitting peaks of 118,119.So ya i guess thats pretty loud:)I noticed when my sub was doin some very low bass it was hitting 116 on lincoln parks reanimation disc. That is LOW 20htz and below,so thats cool.Ya your trinity can do better.Damn i want a trinity.

Using this calculator

http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html

You should be clipping at 114 dB with 400 watts/channel. You're playing your system louder than most rock concerts! I'd be happy if the speakers didn't blow up and the cops didn't break down the door :)
awesome calculator!

putting in the info the op mentioned, i believe the clipping starts at 108.6db
he sits 15 feet away, and the amp does 300 watts into a 8ohm load. and he has 91 db sensitive speakers

With 300 watts, he'll clip at 113. You use 3 speakers for multichannel music and "in a corner" for the correct (according to Crown) 6 dB reinforcement for being in-room. Either way, loud enough to do some serious damage!

ATI has been around for 30 yrs and they makes amps for Earthquake, Lexicon, JBL, Outlaw Audio, and probably some others as well.

Yeah, I would say my volume was around the 120dB when I was standing outside the room with ear plugs on.:D

No clipping lights here.

Upgraditis - you will always be wondering unless you get the flagship. The Trinity is BADDER. You probably don't need it, but you will be wondering anyway.:D

How accurate do you think this is? It doesn't account for the ohms or s dip in the ohms does it?
shows me at 120db before i clip, i'm not sure if anyone would do that normally though!

guess it really doesn't account for dips and all. it should be somewhat accurate i would hope! i'm sure that at those levels, i won't be able to tell much of a difference being deaf already.

Well, it doesn't take into account room size, standing waves or other acoustics besides placement against a wall. It also assumes that your amp is able to provide the full amount of power regardless of impedance while ignoring headroom. It's not perfect but should be ball-park within a handfull of dBs.

Who wants to volunteer to find out? :D
