DVDs, Region 2 & PAL

I just moved to the US from the UK and now have to buy a load of new equipment (yes, shame, isn't it? ). However, one problem is that I have a lot of region 2 DVDs and also some PAL videos. Talking to other Europeans who have moved here, it's clear that this is a problem, as the US doesn't seem to sell NTSC/PAL TVs and unlike the UK, where every DVD player can be hacked, there's no mention that I can find anywhere on how to do this. In Fry's and Best Buy etc. they just look at you blankly (though that may not be unique to my situation possibly...).

So I'm looking to understand what players can I buy that can be hacked easily to play region 2 and also if it's possible to then take the (presumably PAL) signal and display it successfully. Can anyone help?

Some players are hackable, but I've never bothered as most things are released for Region 1. Maybe someone here can offer you some good advice, but if not, check out AC . Try the Cinema or Home Theater Circles and ask "Bubba966". He just about the most knowledgeable person I've ever known about that stuff. He has several hacked players, hundreds of Asian & European DVDs and LDs, and should be able to answer any question you could think of.

That's not to say you won't get an answer here- some of the Admin might know. At least one of them is ISF cert'd and they all know their video. I myself don't know much about Continental video gear.

Not sure if you are interested in buying a new dvd player, but here is a link for you that may help. The Pioneer has a built in PAL/NTSC converter so you can play PAL dvds on NTSC televisions. I have one of these and it works great.
