This may sound silly but i hope someone will answer anyways. On the universal players do you have to tell it your playing a dvda or sacd disc to funtion or will they play automaticly according to the disc format once you insert the disc .Or do you have to tell the receiver to go into the multi input?I'm getting a denon 2200 by friday and trying to get a heads up.

For DVD-A, you have to tell it to select DVD-V or DVD-A playback by default, that's about it. Both stereo and m/c analog are outputting the signal, so there is no selection between the two. I don't recall any settings for SACD like my 222, which lets you default to CD, 2ch SACD or M/C SACD. I'll check tonight what it defaults to, since I normally don't listen to SACDs on it.

It knows what is on the disc when you put it in, shouldn't have to tell it anything. However, with DVD-A discs, there is a "normal" DVD section (DVD-V) that can be played by any DVD player. To have the player default to the DVD-A portion of the disc, you do have to go into the setup menu and select "Audio" for the default and this will affect DVD-A discs only, not movie DVDs. With this setting, DVD-As will ALWAYS default to whichever setting you choose.

The last time I put an SACD in there, the front panel lit up during playback and said SACD and it sounded nice and detailed like the SACD layer should, but I'll check it again when I get off work and let you know for sure.

I'm very happy with this player.

LOL. I edited my post after you asked how I liked it. I've had it for about a year and half, and I really like it. I use digital for DVDs, and obviously, analog for DVD-A and SACD, though I normally play CDs and SACDs on my 222.
