Dvd Upconversion Question

I have an Xbox v1.6 with the samsung dvd drive, will it upconvert dvds? Also what are the pros/cons of upconverting? I have everything hooked up to a Zenith E44W46LCD....

DVD output on the XBox is 480i only. It's hardware does not support a DVD deinterlacer.
