Who knows. Maybe he's already tried using ATMOS in his movies and he thought the SQ was even worst than this DTS-HD MA.
Sound quality is a bit of weird way to term this.

DTS-MA is 8 streams of full 8 24b48kHz lossless audio. It's basically the same as Atmos. The difference being that it is hard mixed and doesn't have the spatial information of Atmos, so you don't get the overt overhead data. I know there's a little bit more going on with the data other than heights but my point is that Atmos isn't any more clear or higher resolution in fidelity. So I don't really see this as a quality issue. More of a surround-sound presentation difference.

For what it's worth, Atmos height is rarely used to really stand-out effect. Most of the time when I let my processor just upmix into the heights, I notice very little difference between it and DTS-MA 7.1 while actually watching. Maybe I might more if I was only paying attention to the sound but I don't really get fussed about a good DTS-MA mix instead of Atmos.

I'm not really trying to defend his "stuck in the past" stance. But I really don't see it as a huge "quality" hit on his films either.

That’s the point.

Overall SQ (dialogue, Surrounds, etc.) probably has more to do with the actual sound mixing than whether it’s DTS vs ATMOS.

Maybe sound mixing with ATMOS is different than mixing with DTS.

Maybe there are advantages and disadvantages, pros and cons.

Maybe a lot of things.

So yeah, maybe there’s probably a little bit more going on.

I’m sure he doesn’t owe an explanation. But if he has tried mixing with ATMOS and doesn’t like it, then most of us would understand.

The issue with Atmos is trying to make it fluid and not gimmicky.

Probably more with ATMOS than with DTS. But that’s also the issue with just about everything that’s not done correctly/sensibly/judiciously.

I’ve seen movies with DD5.1 or DTS5.1 where they mixed dialogue into the surround speakers that’s supposed to be cool, but sometimes it’s more annoying cool.

Obviously the key to everything is doing it correctly whether it’s ATMOS or DTS-HD MA or whatever.

I tried watching “Masters of the Universe” 4K.

Oh, boy. Avoid this one at all cost. It’s really stupid. I stopped watching about 1/2 way because I couldn’t take it anymore. :D

DTS: X sure died fast. :D

So, WB is taking the time to release a brand-new Harry Potter 4k Steelbook set, but they aren't even upgrading the 4k discs. No Dolby Vision and no Atmos. Same HDR and DTS:X mix from the original release from way back in the day. That's disappointing.

It's a He Man movie. Have you watched the cartoon as an adult? It's like some weird acid trip my brain couldn't comprehend. So stupid.

I only saw the He-Man cartoons when I was in 7th or 8th grade. So I don’t remember much. But it seemed like the original cartoons were more serious and better than this stupid live action. :D

OMG. The screenwriter for this 2026 movie must be an idiot. They turned He-Man into a lame idiotic sissy. Unbelievable.

I grabbed the episodes for my kids as something random to watch. I decided to watch the first episode and made it 5 min in before turning it off because it was so dumb. It's been years, but I remember thinking "I liked this when I was a kid?"

True. Well, this live-action He-Man is probably "faithful" to the original He-Man cartoons, which was already stupid. :D

The day I saw the He-Man movie trailer, I said at that exact moment "that movie is going to tank". I don't know who is green lighting these movies. They are horrible ideas. He-man wasn't even that popular of a cartoon series. When compared to other cartoons from the decade. Next, we'll be seeing a Tale Spin, Duck Tales and Chip & Dale rescue ranger LIVE action movies!! Gonna be massive at the box office! :D

I also knew He-Man was going to tank. But I read and saw some people were saying that it wasn't all that bad.

Apparently these people don't know crap because it is THAT BAD. :D

I watched Masters of the Universe last week. Surprisingly, it ISN'T that bad. It isn't GOOD either :D It has a decent comedic aspect to it, corny action as expected, but It feels like the cartoon in that it never really feels like the threat is that big, aka; Skeletor (Jared Leto) doesn't feel like a serious bad guy. Good visuals, good sound, general check-brain-at-door popcorn flick.

To be honest, I liked Mortal Kombat 2 more. It is only about 5% better, but the humor and fights were a bit more entertaining.

If you are looking for a HIGHLY entertaining action fight-action flick, this is it. I watched an interview with the director and his one goal was: Make the most bad @ss action movie :D :p I am not sure they truly achieved it, but the fight sequences are so complex they do make John Wick look like he's lazy. Some of them drag on a bit too long, but they're never not interesting. You can still check your brain at the door for this one, but you will be rewinding the fight scenes to watch them again; So many Oh Sh! moments.

It is from the guys who made The Raid. If you haven't seen that, you aren't an action movie fan haha. (and if you haven't, watch that first)

I haven't watched it yet, but one of the main issues most people had was the length of the movie. They said it could easily have been cut down 25-30 mins. Mostly coming in the first part of the movie. They said the first 30 mins was just dumb and not necessary.

It sets up the story, but yes, it dragged unnecessarily. Once it gets going, it is OK. I did watch it over two days because it isn't compelling enough to sit through the whole thing at once.
