Sony made a unit in their ES line called a AVD-700ES up until 2005. Does anyone make one currently like it with a HDMI connection? I want to
use it in a small room and don't have room for alot of components. I need
to use it with Klipsh speakers already flush installed in the wall in a 5.1 setting
with a Klipsch subwoofer. which is why i can't use any of the current Home thater in a box sysytems due to being made to connect to the speakers they come with.

I can still find some of the Sony units around like the above mentioned and may have to settle for it---however what is best way to connect to a Hitachi
42" plasma w/ HDMI. The AVD-700ES has component video and S-Video outputs and 2 optical/1 coaxial digital input. Also 1 Optical digital output.
Are there any cables I can buy to convert these connections on the Sony to the HDMI on the Hitachi ?

If you get a combo unit . . .

You would be compromising audio and video quality and up over an entry level receiver and upconversion DVD player. If you must have a combo unit, buy any HTIB and throw out the speakers. I doubt you will find any with an HDMI connection.

I cannot use the spealers for a HT in a box--due to special connections made for them.

As far as quality The ES line item I spoke about from Sony--was a $1200 unit
and it seemed to be pretty decent. Just no Up-conversion

Why not use the analog connections from the Sony to the Hitachi (eg. component video)? You will be very hard pressed to notice the difference in video quality anyway.
