Hi I am new to home theater and don't know a whole lot so bare with me.
I recently Purchased a whole new set up, Sony 6.2 surround, LCD TV, DVD player. I am extremely happy with it all :D . The Picture is excellent and the sound is amazing! I was just wondering about my DVD player as it was fairly cheap if i was to upgrade would the sound get any better (noticeable) i paid $120 Australian for it and it has all i need (DivX, DTS, DD, HDMI). so yeah i was just curious if spending more money on a top of the line player would produce better sound that i will notice? And if so do you guys have any recommendations? not to expensive though :p

and before you ask, yes i have all the connections set up (coax and so on) and also will expensive leads make a noticeable difference?

Thanks in advanced.
Rob.

Welcome.

See how much an Oppo 981 would be shipped down under. www.oppodigital.com Very high marks for video without spending a bundle. If using a digital connection, then no a high end player won't make a big difference sound wise.

Quality leads (interconnects) are all you need. Interconnects do have an influence on your overall system, but not a big one, and spending top dollar on them won't give you a night and day difference.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just one more quick question if you know. Do the Oppo's play Region 4 dvds?

thanks again

I vaguely remember reading about a hack somewhere online to make the Oppos region-free (assuming they're not already). It might have been videohelp.com, not sure.

cheers,

When I picked up my 980 they said the info to make the player region free was right on their website, but I don't see it. Googled it and found it no problem on plenty of other sites.
