DVD-2910 and HDMI Questions!!!

I just got a Denon DVD-2910 and am anticipating arrival of the Yammy 1600 receiver shortly. Hoo-hoo!!!!

However, just when I thought I had this whole business sorted out...I'm puzzled at the HDMI thing. Your comments are most welcome:

1. OK...if I choose to output a multichannel signal over the 2910's HDMI connection, does all the processing (including DTS/DD decoding, speaker delay, bass management, etc.) occur in the 2910, and the 1600 only acts as a pre-amp/amp? Or can the 1600 still do things (such as DSP) to that signal input?

2. I'm assuming the 2910's DTS/DD decoder is better than that in the 1600...right???

3. For those of you who have one, I'm assuming that the correct setup setting for the HDMI is LPCM, not PCM...right? That is, if I want multichannel output from the HDMI?

4. Upscaling of the DVD's 480p signal can only occur out of the HDMI...right?

5. Can I have both an HDMI and a coax digital signal coming out of the 2910?

I would appreciate the experiences/advice of any you out there with a 2910/HDMI-equipped receiver combo. What works best?

Sorry for all the questions -- but getting new equipment is both a time of great job and great hair-pulling.

Some of your questions

Sorry I will not be able to answer all of your questions; however I own the 1920, and can tell you yes, you can have both HDMI and coax/optical-fiber out. Right now I have the hdmi plugged directly into my TV, and the fiber audio going to my denon receiver. Both the TV and the receiver can play audio from the disc.

To get the video upscaling from 480P, you must use HDMI.

Now in terms of the digital processing, my understanding is that by sending the signals via HDMI, Optical, or digital coax; the video signals (hdmi), and the audio (hdmi/fiber/coax) are all kept in their digital forms, so no processing is being done by the DVD player. If you want it do the DAC processing, use the analog outs on the DVD player.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks, Ionwa...that's consistent with what I have heard. I found a very useful thread (going back to October 2004) on the AVS forums for 2910 users, and I have a much better understanding of what is possible with this setup.

Thanks again.
