Dumb Question

I am currently running a new SR508 but only have my center and rear L/R surrounds connected. Is my receiver compensating for the front L/R missing and sending signals to the surrounds? I've noticed a lot of voices coming from the rears and wondered if it was because of this or maybe just the content I was watching.

I am working a little backwards, but am going to pick up my front L/R "Height" in ceiling speakers to run as my fronts until I can get my entertainment center wiring done and get the front L/R bookshelf speakers. Who knows, maybe I'll just stick with the 5.1 with the in ceilings if it sounds good.

Sounds like it. It must be confused. L/R speakers are the first ones to connect not the last!

I figured this was the case. I was using my old fronts but once I got my center channel I noticed the difference in frequencies so I just unplugged them.

By any chance you don't have them set to mono or stereo?

I don't think so but I'll check that out. I haven't really done any "setup" just plugged the speakers in and turned it on. Waiting for all speakers to run the calibration.
