Dual center channel speakers?

Hi all,
I wanted to post this problem to see if any of you could help me.
I installed in-wall Polk RC-85i's in my basement this past weekend. Unfortunately, there was a stud where I was going to put my center channel. The wife acceptance factor would not allow me to have an offset speaker (visually) so, since I had an extra speaker, I put two in, on either side of the stud and wired them up serially. Was this a good idea? I watched a dvd of the A-Team the other night and it sounded fine, but when I tried to watch a recording of the Big Bang Theory, the commercials were booming but the actors in the show sounded half volume.
Should I have wired these in serial, parallel or only wired up one?
Thanks!

I'll try to just use one.

Though I don't think my problem is with comb filtering, it just seems like half power sound in the center, but only sometimes. I'll rewire and take one speaker out, and I'll maybe even try wiring them in parallel for testing's sake.

TV audio formats/levels are all over the place so you can't base issues using it as a source.
