Dual Bose AM-10 Subs - wiring question

Forgive my lack of terminology and/or understanding. Thanks in advance for any help.

Denon AVRs900W
Bose Acoustimas 10

1) Is it better to have speakers wired to the sub and then to the AVR like the Bose does or is it better to just wire the speakers directly to the AVR and just have the RCA from the sub to the AVR?

2) I've 2 of the Bose AM-10 subs in my room, depending on the answer to #1 above, do I just wire the speakers through one of these subs and the other sub just gets an RCA connection to the AVR? Or do I wire all speakers through BOTH subs and then to the AVR?

Personally, I'd just connect both of 'em to the receivers LFE output. USe a "Y" connnector if necessary.

Bose stuff is contrary and not good.

You can not wire Bose cube speakers to an AVR. The crossover on receivers does not go high enough for the cubes, so you will damage them.

The so called sub isn't. It is a bass module and goes much higher than a usual sub, even then there is a gap a mile wide between the bass module and the sub.

You have to wire them the way Bose tells you too.

You can try to connect the second sub to the LFE and see what happens.

Whatever you do set your speakers to large. Use LFE plus main and and set the LFE crossover as high as possible.

According to the BOSE AM-10 owners manual, it does allow a connection directly to the LFE output on the receiver as well as to the five speaker outputs.

So, he can connect one bass toaster completly, with all the speakers connected, and the other bass toaster via only the LFE connection.

Of course, if he doesn't have the required propriatary Bose cable for the second toaster, he may well be scrooged.

I suspect with the second bass module it will sound worse, if that's possible.

There is a huge gap, well known as the Bose gap, between the module and the satellites which don't go below 180 Hz. So they have a miss tuned coupled cavity module to give a huge peak above 100 Hz to disguise the gap and make people think there is lots of bass. Two modules will up this peak 3db, and if in close proximity 6db.

Hey, he asked if he could do it and how, and we told him yes, he could, and how to do it.

He didn't ask if it was sound any good.

Remember, some people love the Bose sound.

markw and TLS Guy - Thank you for your input and your time. I've read a little about 'Blose' and it's what I currently have because I didn't know any better...But I'm not adverse to selling it and getting the right stuff, I just don't know what that is. I’m remodeling my theater room (rectangle 23’ long x 12’ wide) and just like everyone; I want the best stuff for the cheapest price. Not asking you to do any research- I’ve done some but at my level it’s really hard to tell what is better than the next- but since you are both very experienced, can you offer any suggestions on what I should look into given these parameters:

Assuming I keep the Denon AVRs900W (although, if you have qualms with that I’d love to know them)

I’d like 7.2 surround which is what I currently have

What would you recommend for:
Speakers
Subwoofer(s)

Budget - ~$2k
We watch movies primarily in this room. Just if you have any suggestions or recommendations I should look into, I would appreciate it.

Hi Jib, welcome to the forum. :)

The best performing, high value 7.2 system that I'm aware of for your ~$2K budget is a combo from Ascend Acoustics/Rythmik Audio. The system comprises:

Ascend Acoustics CMT-340 SE mains; CMT-340 SEC centre; HTM-200 SE for surrounds/rears; and dual Rythmik Audio LV12-R DirectServo subs.

For a dynamic HT experience in a moderate sized room, six matching 6.5" woofers across the front and two ported 12" subs is very tough to beat for the price.

Loaded into the Ascend shopping cart, the total system price comes to $2346. Shipping in the US comes to $114. If you need to stick closer to $2K, you could postpone purchasing the CMT-340 SE's and use a pair of HTM-200 SE's as mains for the interim. This would bring the price to just under $2K shipped.

Your Denon ARV-S900W is a pretty good unit and will be fine driving this system to satisfyingly loud levels.

GIEGAR - Thanks! Wow, I appreciate the leads here. I'll go check these out. I'm real impressed with all the responses here, I think you people are generous with your time and knowledge. If I learn anything, I'll pay it forward. :) Any good places to list my Bose AM 10 and my Bose AM 6 systems?
