Thanks for all the responses guys. Man, some of you guys really seem to know your stuff.

Anyway, I agree that I have heard good and bad examples of both formats. It just kind of bothers me that one of the big selling points for my receiver seems to have been a moot point. That said, I still LOVE my 2805.
You have a solid receiver and try a DTS misic disc.

And I still love my 2805. I use PL 11X Cine for most tv and Neo 6 Music for any music programs. I have a couple of music DVD's that give me the option of DTS and I'll take that choice anytime! If DVD movies give me the option, I'll take DTS. As far as Nascar, if its in DD 5.1, I'll leave it there, but some races (Speed Channel) are very mono, so I'll go into Mono Movie to open up the sound.

There's one more paper which has a great deal of information on perceptual coders like Dolby Digital and MPEG:

'Perceptual Coding of Digital Audio', by Ted Painter and Andreas Spanias. Proceedings of the IEEE, Vol. 88, No. 4, April 2000.

Next time find a paper in the 3 digit pages:D LOL

Nice find. Too bad it didn't include DTS. I wonder why that is. AC-3 was one of two top performers.
